Google-Backed Namma Yatri Raises ₹39.75 Crore in Pre-Series A Extension

Google-Backed Namma Yatri Raises ₹39.75 Crore Funding

Share

Google-Backed Ride-hailing platform Namma Yatri has secured ₹39.75 crore, roughly $4.4 million, in a pre-Series A extension round, strengthening investor confidence in its driver-focused mobility model.

The round was led by Vimal Kumar, founder of Juspay. Existing investors, including Blume Ventures and Antler, also participated in the funding round.

The fresh capital builds on the company’s earlier funding momentum and reflects growing interest in mobility platforms that are trying to redesign how ride-hailing works in India.

A Different Approach to Ride-Hailing

Launched in 2022, Namma Yatri was built with a clear focus on improving the economics of ride-hailing for drivers. While most traditional ride-hailing platforms earn revenue by taking a percentage commission from every ride, Namma Yatri follows a different model.

In order to utilise the app and keep the entire fare from their journeys, drivers on the platform must pay a subscription fee. For drivers who frequently suffer from large commissions on traditional platforms, this structure has been positioned as a more transparent and sustainable method.

Moving Tech, a business that sprang out of Juspay’s ecosystem, built the app. The platform’s initial goal has been to provide a community-driven substitute for the rapidly expanding ride-hailing industry in India.

The platform swiftly acquired popularity in cities where vehicle transportation is still a crucial component of daily commuting, despite its initial concentration on matching passengers with auto-rickshaw drivers.

Built Around India’s Open Digital Infrastructure

Namma Yatri operates within the framework of the Open Network for Digital Commerce, widely known as ONDC. The initiative is designed to create open digital networks that allow multiple platforms and service providers to connect through shared infrastructure.

Within the mobility sector, this model aims to break away from closed platform ecosystems by enabling greater interoperability between different apps and services.

For drivers and passengers, this approach has the potential to bring more transparency and flexibility into the ride-hailing ecosystem. By building on an open network, Namma Yatri is positioning itself as part of a broader shift toward decentralised digital platforms in India.

Earlier Backing from Major Technology Investors

The most recent fundraising round comes after Namma Yatri received $11 million in July 2024, which was the company’s previous investment milestone. Global tech behemoth Google, Blume Ventures, and Antler all participated in that round.

The firm has strengthened its footprint in many Indian locations and accelerated its development thanks to the backing of major technology investors.

The rising significance of mobility companies that integrate digital platforms with extensive urban transportation requirements is reflected in investor interest in the firm.

Expanding the Platform Across Cities

With the latest capital infusion, Namma Yatri is expected to continue expanding its footprint across India. The company is likely to focus on improving its technology platform while increasing the number of drivers and riders using the service.

Urban transportation remains one of the most competitive and rapidly evolving sectors in India’s startup ecosystem. New models that prioritise driver earnings, transparency, and open digital infrastructure are beginning to attract significant attention from investors and policymakers alike.

For Namma Yatri, the fresh funding provides the resources needed to strengthen its platform while continuing to build a mobility network that places drivers at the centre of the system.
