India Inc. is going through a tremendous transformation, with a stronger emphasis on diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI). However, difficulties still exist. But problems still exist. Just 10% of Indian workers feel fully appreciated at work, and just 16.3% think that the country’s current diversity awareness and training initiatives are beneficial, per a new LinkedIn survey.

Leveraging AI for Inclusive Hiring

AI is being used to detect and minimise unconscious prejudice during recruitment, anonymise resumes, and review hiring trends to ensure fairness.

Expanding the Definition of Inclusion

In addition to actively hiring people with disabilities, companies like IndiGo, Lemon Tree Hotels, and JW Marriott are improving workplace accessibility by building amenities such as elevators, ramps, and accessible restrooms.

Supporting LGBTQIA+ Employees

Additionally, there is a growing movement to create LGBTQIA+-inclusive workplaces. Wells Fargo and Flipkart have taken important steps by launching programs like transgender recruiting drives and establishing delivery hubs staffed by LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Moreover, innovative practices such as reverse mentoring, where Gen Z mentors senior executives on topics like DEI and digital literacy are helping to normalize inclusive conversations.

Ongoing Challenges in Diversity & Inclusion

Even with these great advancements, challenges still exist. Many LGBTQIA+ professionals in India still experience discrimination and have little employment opportunities, according to Careernet Prism. Nonetheless, it is encouraging to learn that 50% of LGBTQIA+ respondents are open about their identity at work and feel accepted by their employers.

Turning Intent into Impact

India Inc. must move past idealistic goals and towards workable solutions if it hopes to succeed in the long run. Consistent leadership, inclusive workplace practices, and integrating DEI into daily operations are essential. To find and get rid of systemic biases, artificial intelligence and data analytics will be needed.

Establishing workplaces that are really diverse, equitable, and inclusive is not only a social requirement but also a business advantage. India Inc. is making a daring step towards a more creative, compassionate, and forward-thinking corporate ecosystem by implementing DEI.
