Kabeer Biswas, the co-founder and former CEO of hyperlocal delivery startup Dunzo, has resigned from Flipkart, where he was Vice President leading the company’s rapid-delivery arm, Flipkart Minutes. Flipkart confirmed his departure and said veteran executive Kunal Gupta will now lead Minutes to ensure continuity of business and operations.
Biswas began his stint at Flipkart on January 9, 2025, after Media reported his Dunzo exit on January 2 and then his move to Flipkart Minutes on January 5. His resignation comes roughly 10 months after joining the Walmart-owned e-commerce major.
What’s next for Kabeer Biswas?
Biswas is in advanced talks to join BigBasket to lead its quick-commerce vertical, and the online grocer has extended an offer letter, per people aware of the discussions. Biswas said he was not authorised to comment, while BigBasket did not respond to queries, the report added .
Flipkart said Biswas “decided to move on… to pursue other opportunities” and credited him with helping strengthen customer experience at Minutes. With Gupta, who has been with Flipkart for over a decade, taking charge, the company signalled an internal succession to keep the unit’s operations steady.
Flipkart Minutes, launched this year to compete with Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart, was being built under Biswas’s leadership as part of Flipkart’s push beyond traditional e-commerce into faster, localised delivery formats, Entrackr noted .
Biswas co-founded Bengaluru-based Dunzo in 2014 and led it for nearly a decade. The service, once a prominent player in India’s hyperlocal delivery space, encountered operational and funding challenges in recent years; Entrackr reports it was ultimately shut down. Reliance, which invested about $200 million in Dunzo in 2022, has since written off its investment, the outlet added.
The Significance
- Leadership flux in quick commerce: Biswas’s exit marks another leadership change in the sector’s rapid-delivery push, just as incumbents double down on sub-30-minute grocery and essentials
- Competitive dynamics: If Biswas joins BigBasket, it could reshape strategy within the Tata-backed grocer’s fast-delivery arm at a time when category leaders are expanding assortment and dark-store density. (Talks are ongoing; no appointment has been announced)
- Continuity at Flipkart: Elevating an internal leader like Gupta suggests Flipkart aims for stability at Minutes while it continues to refine the economics and customer experience of rapid delivery
