Consuma, an AI startup from Bengaluru, raised a seed round of $1.3 million (around ₹11 crore) with the lead investor being Equirus InnovateX Fund. Equirus InnovateX is a venture arm of Equirus Capital that mainly invests in technology-based companies at the early stage. The funding round was also attended by several angel investors. This move follows the pre-seed round backed by Expert DOJO and a group of early supporters. With this new money, Consuma is going to the next level of product innovation and market expansion, both in India and internationally.

A Mission to Modernize Consumer Research

Founded in 2021 by Abhilash Madabhushi, Consuma was created with one clear vision, to make consumer research faster, smarter, and more data-driven. Consumer insights have traditionally relied on methods like surveys and focus groups, which are inherently slow, expensive, and have scale limitations. Consuma’s platform turns these manual methods upside down by AI-driven analysis that can handle huge volumes of publicly available digital data in real time.

With its tech, Consuma aims to find brand-new trends, consumer moods, and changes in behavior at a glance instead of waiting for months, thus providing the insights which are a step ahead for the brands. Consuma, by automating the whole research pipeline, enables companies to base their decisions on the most recent data rather than on what has been already done.

The Founder’s Vision

Abhilash Madabhushi, who previously worked in data and product strategy roles, noticed how difficult it was for brands to keep up with rapidly changing consumer preferences. “Consumers are evolving faster than ever before, but research tools haven’t caught up,” he explained in an earlier company statement. “We’re building technology that delivers deep, accurate, and real-time consumer understanding, insights that traditionally took months, now available within minutes.”

This vision underpins Consuma’s mission: to bring consumer intelligence into the age of AI and make insights accessible, affordable, and actionable for every brand.

How Consuma’s Platform Works

Basically, Consuma’s invention relies on machine learning algorithms that can process a vast amount of digital behavior data. The data includes online discussions, searches, reviews, and engagement trends, and all these are taken from publicly available data sources. After locating these signals, the platform changes to recognize the changes in people’s feelings and their requests for goods or services.

Unlike surveys that depend on a few hundred participants, Consuma’s models process thousands of data points from real-time digital behaviour. This allows brands to measure audience preferences, predict emerging needs, and test ideas without months of manual research or data collection.

Strategic Use of Funds

The fresh funds secured will go toward deepening the technology stack at Consuma, widening the AI research team, and developing sales and customer success operations. Also, the company is going to upgrade its analytics engine to provide finer and more predictive insights.

In parallel, Consuma is preparing to expand its presence beyond India, aiming to serve global clients in sectors such as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, and lifestyle. These are industries where understanding rapid shifts in consumer behaviour is critical for innovation and growth.

Early Market Traction

Consuma, albeit still in its early years, has effectively showcased the increasing appeal of its product. As a result, it was able to start working with more than 35 big brands like Godrej and Britannia only a few months after its public launch. These collaborations signal the revival of trust that the traditional industry leaders are placing into AI-powered market research tools.

The platform’s ability to deliver insights up to 10 times faster and at one-tenth the cost of traditional research has attracted attention from marketing and product teams eager for faster, data-backed decision-making.

Why This Matters Now

In today’s digital economy, consumer trends can change overnight. Viral content, social media movements, or global events can alter public sentiment instantly, leaving companies with little time to respond. Traditional surveys simply can’t keep pace with this reality.

Consuma’s AI-first approach offers a solution to this gap. By providing brands with live, dynamic insights from millions of digital interactions, it helps them design better campaigns, launch timely products, and respond more effectively to consumer needs.

Challenges on the Horizon

Consuma, despite the promise it holds, is a company that operates in a space where challenges are inevitable. Data privacy and compliance will be the company’s biggest challenge as it will expand in different countries. The company must make sure that all data analyzed is not only ethically sourced but also that it complies with privacy laws that are continuously changing.

Furthermore, even though AI is capable of handling large volumes of data in a very short time, it still needs to be accepted by traditional marketers and researchers who are of the opinion that the best way is through human interpretation. To Consuma’s continued existence it will be very important to demonstrate correctness, transparency, and accountability.

Fresh wave of AI-powered consumer research

Consuma is now ready to spearhead a fresh wave of AI-powered consumer research not only in India but also globally with its recent investment round. Keeping its technology at the cutting edge is part of the company’s strategy, and it will also be seeking partners who see the value in combining the accuracy of a machine with the skills of a human to produce a new norm for the way brands get to know and talk to their customers.

If successful, Consuma could redefine how consumer insights are gathered, transforming research from a slow, reactive process into a fast, intelligent, and continuous engine for business growth.
