Actor Shilpa Shetty has told Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) that she did not oversee the day-to-day affairs of Best Deal TV Private Limited, the now-liquidated home-shopping and online retail venture she co-founded with her husband, Raj Kundra. Investigators recorded her statement at her residence on October 4, questioning her for over four hours, and are now verifying documents she submitted in support of her claim.

What Shilpa Shetty told investigators

According to an official, Shetty stated she “was not looking into the affairs of the company” and that her involvement was limited to appearances for which she was paid celebrity fees. The EOW is examining the paperwork she provided to corroborate this position.

The case so far

The cheating case stems from a complaint by businessman Deepak Kothari (60), who alleged he was duped of nearly ₹60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal. The FIR was registered at Juhu police station on August 14 against Kundra and Shetty. Police had previously recorded Kundra’s statement and issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) for both.

Best Deal TV, described as a home-shopping and online retail platform, is now liquidated. Both Shetty and Kundra served as directors in the company.

Inside the October 4 questioning

EOW officers visited Shetty’s residence on October 4 and questioned her for more than four hours, focusing on her role and the company’s financial dealings. A second account of the same interrogation confirms the timing and location of the questioning and notes the company was co-founded with Kundra.

For now, investigators are cross-checking the documents Shetty provided. Any further action will depend on whether those records substantiate her assertion that she had no operational role at Best Deal TV and only performed on-air promotional work for fees.
