Apple’s Foldable iPhone Reportedly Stays on Track as iPhone 18 Pro Design Details Emerge

A new leak points to a September debut for Apple’s first foldable iPhone, while the iPhone 18 Pro series could adopt a slimmer, glass-focused design inspired by the iPhone Air. Apple has not confirmed either development.

Apple’s future iPhone lineup may be heading in two very different design directions. One could introduce the company’s first foldable smartphone, while the other may reshape the familiar Pro series with a thinner body and greater use of glass.

The latest claims come from Chinese technology commentator Fixed Focus Digital, who shared details about Apple’s reported product plans on Weibo. The leak suggests that the company’s foldable iPhone remains on schedule despite earlier concerns about manufacturing and supply constraints. The device is being linked with the possible name “iPhone Ultra,” although its final branding has not been established.

Foldable iPhone production issues reportedly addressed

The foldable model had previously faced questions over whether production challenges could disrupt its planned release. According to the leak, the most significant obstacles have now been resolved, and the manufacturing line was completed by the end of July.

That development could allow Apple to introduce the device in September alongside its wider iPhone lineup. Some supply-related difficulties may still remain, but the information shared so far does not point to a major postponement.

For now, the significance of the leak lies in its timing. Rather than describing the foldable iPhone as an early-stage project, it presents the device as a product moving closer to launch.

iPhone 18 Pro could borrow from the iPhone Air

The same leak also offers an early glimpse at the iPhone 18 Pro series, which is being associated with Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone generation.

The upcoming Pro models are said to retain a slim profile similar to the iPhone Air while moving towards a glass-based construction. They could also feature a larger vapour chamber cooling system, potentially reflecting the thermal demands of a thinner flagship design.

The reference to a glass construction remains open to interpretation. Apple’s current Pro-style designs already combine glass surfaces with a metal frame, so the leak may be pointing to a broader use of glass rather than a completely glass-built device.

A slimmer body would also raise practical questions. Apple’s Pro models are generally expected to accommodate advanced camera hardware, strong performance and substantial battery capacity. Reducing thickness while preserving those features could require significant changes to the internal layout.

The leaked sources does not explain how Apple may balance those competing requirements, and no measurements, specifications or component details have been disclosed.

Two flagship designs could define Apple’s next cycle

Taken together, the claims suggest Apple may be preparing two visually distinct flagship products.

The reported iPhone Ultra would introduce a foldable form factor to the company’s smartphone range. The iPhone 18 Pro series, meanwhile, could deliver a more traditional handset with a noticeably slimmer silhouette and a stronger emphasis on glass.

Such a lineup would allow Apple to explore a new device category without abandoning the conventional design used by its established Pro models. However, several important details remain unresolved, including the foldable phone’s final name and release markets, as well as the exact materials and dimensions planned for the iPhone 18 Pro.

Most importantly, Apple has not publicly endorsed the leaked information. Until the company makes an official announcement, the proposed launch schedule and design changes should be treated as unconfirmed.
