Rockstar Games is bringing working social feeds, viral characters and a culture of vanity into the everyday life of Vice City.
Rockstar Games is giving Grand Theft Auto VI a more connected digital layer, with working social media feeds becoming part of how players experience Vice City and the wider Leonida region.
The in-game phone will allow players to browse social feeds while moving through the open world. Preview coverage has also described posts that can draw attention to characters, locations and events taking place elsewhere in Leonida, making the phone more closely tied to the world around the player.
The details emerged following Dazed’s extensive feature on Grand Theft Auto VI, which included interviews with Rockstar developers and people who have worked on the game’s world.
Social Media Becomes Part of the Open World
The social feeds are among the more notable additions to GTA 6’s phone system.
One scenario described by Dazed has Jason Duval driving while Lucia Caminos uses the phone from the passenger seat. The example highlights how the device can remain part of the game’s activity rather than being restricted to moments when the player is standing still.
Preview reports have gone further, describing social posts that can point players towards characters, locations or events elsewhere in Leonida.
Some of the phone applications identified through preview coverage include BuckMe, RydeMe, Scooter Bros, WhatUp, Waink, Snapmatic and a fitness app. Rockstar has not published a complete official list explaining every application or its functions.
Waink has been described in preview coverage as a vehicle-focused application connected to car theft gameplay, while other reported apps cover areas such as transportation, communication, money and fitness.
That gives the phone a role beyond basic communication. It can also become another window into what is happening across the game’s world.
Vice City Runs on Appearance and Trends
Rockstar’s approach to Vice City also extends beyond its digital spaces.
Miami-based stylist Jillian Carr, who has worked with Rockstar since 2023, described the fictional city as a place where vanity, celebrity culture and tourism strongly influence everyday life. She also pointed to quickly changing trends and the importance of appearances.
That idea has influenced the game’s wider population.
Rockstar has developed characters with greater variation in ages, heights, body shapes, tattoos, piercings and clothing. Characters are also designed around the environments where they appear, helping different parts of Leonida develop their own visual identities.
Jamie-Lee Lloyd, Rockstar’s senior art director for characters, discussed the development of new tools and production systems for creating the game’s population.
The result is intended to make pedestrians feel less interchangeable while connecting their appearance and behaviour more closely to their surroundings.
Real Dimez Add a Viral Side to GTA 6’s Story
The fictional rap duo Real Dimez provides another example of how social media fits into GTA 6’s character stories.
The group consists of Bae-Luxe and Roxy, who have been friends since high school and are pursuing success through music and online attention.
The duo previously worked with local rapper DWNPLY and are now signed to Only Raw Records. Their efforts to build another successful chapter in their careers can be followed through viral posts appearing on the game’s social feeds.
That means some character developments can reach players through the digital world inside the game rather than only through traditional missions or cutscenes.
It also gives Rockstar another way to connect the phone with the wider lives of Leonida’s residents.
GTA 6 Pushes Rockstar’s Digital Satire Further
Digital culture has already been part of the Grand Theft Auto series.
Grand Theft Auto V featured fictional online services such as Lifeinvader and Bleeter. GTA 6 appears to build on that idea with social feeds that are more closely woven into its open world and character stories.
The approach fits Rockstar’s version of modern Vice City, where celebrity culture, fashion, tourism and online attention overlap.
The company is scheduled to release Grand Theft Auto VI on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
