Toyota has introduced the updated Innova Hycross in Indonesia, bringing a handful of changes to its popular MPV. While the facelift adds some important technology and comfort upgrades, the overall design remains largely unchanged. For buyers expecting a more noticeable transformation, the updates may feel relatively modest.
The India launch is expected to follow, with the Indian-spec model potentially receiving a few additional changes to its exterior and interior.
Toyota Innova Hycross Facelift: What’s New?
The biggest changes to the new Innova Hycross are concentrated inside the cabin. The updated model gets a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the existing unit. The new display is expected to feature a cleaner interface and an updated infotainment system.
Another important addition is a new TFT digital instrument cluster. It replaces the older instrument display and gives the dashboard a more modern appearance. These two upgrades are among the most noticeable changes in the facelift.
Toyota could also revise the upholstery for the Indian version, giving the cabin a slightly refreshed look.
Rear-Seat Comfort Gets Attention
Apart from the technology upgrades, Toyota is also expected to improve passenger convenience.
The facelift could introduce an electric recline function for the second-row captain seats. This would make adjusting the rear seating position easier, particularly for passengers who frequently travel in the back.
Another possible addition is a kick sensor for the boot, allowing users to access the luggage compartment more conveniently.
However, these features are yet to be confirmed for the Indian-spec model.
Will Toyota Change the Engine Options?
Mechanically, the Innova Hycross facelift is expected to retain its existing petrol and strong-hybrid powertrains. The updates are primarily focused on equipment and cabin improvements rather than changes to the vehicle’s mechanical setup.
The hybrid version is expected to continue as an important part of the lineup, with Toyota retaining the powertrain that has been a major part of the Hycross offering.
Interestingly, the Indian version is also expected to get a flex-fuel variant. This could add another powertrain option to the lineup, although further details about its specifications and launch timeline are awaited.
Will the Indian Innova Hycross Get More Changes?
The Indonesian reveal gives an early indication of what buyers can expect from the facelift, but the Indian version could receive a slightly different treatment.
Apart from the interior upgrades, the India-spec Innova Hycross could get new alloy wheels and minor exterior revisions. Toyota may also introduce additional cabin changes, including revised upholstery and convenience features.
For now, there is no confirmation that the Indian model will receive more extensive cosmetic updates.
Is the Innova Hycross Facelift a Big Enough Upgrade?
Looking at the changes revealed so far, the Innova Hycross facelift appears to be more of a feature-focused update than a major redesign.
The larger touchscreen, updated digital instrument cluster and possible rear-seat comfort improvements should make the MPV feel more modern inside. However, the largely unchanged exterior means buyers will have to look closely to notice the difference.
Much will depend on what Toyota brings to the Indian market. If the company adds more equipment or introduces additional cosmetic changes, the India-spec facelift could offer a more noticeable upgrade.
Toyota is expected to reveal more details closer to the Indian launch. Until then, the extent of the changes for the domestic market remains to be seen.
