OpenAI has launched ChatGPT for Financial Services, a tailored version of ChatGPT Work designed specifically for financial institutions and the day-to-day demands of banking teams.

The product combines built-in financial data with the reasoning capabilities of GPT-6 Astra to help financial professionals work on research, financial models and customised client materials. A key part of the offering is its focus on making financial analysis easier to trace back to the underlying evidence.

Built with Morgan Stanley and Evercore

OpenAI said ChatGPT for Financial Services was shaped through design partnerships with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. The collaboration was used to identify areas where AI could address challenges faced by financial institutions and help shape tools for everyday banking work.

The focus is not limited to generating answers. OpenAI said the system is designed to support research and analysis while allowing bankers to follow the figures and claims used in their work.

Financial data built directly into ChatGPT

One of the central features of the new product is access to built-in premium financial data. OpenAI said the offering includes data from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase.

OpenAI said hosting and indexing this data within its platform is intended to reduce the challenges involved in connecting external data sources through MCP connectors. It also enables features such as granular citations.

For financial professionals, those citations are designed to make it easier to trace figures and claims back to their sources and check the evidence while an analysis is still being developed.

Designed around financial research and modelling

ChatGPT for Financial Services is positioned as a workspace for several tasks that are part of financial teams’ regular workflows. These include developing research, building financial models and preparing customised materials for clients.

The product also includes GPT-6 Astra natively. OpenAI said newer models will continue to become available directly through the product as they are released.

This approach puts financial data and frontier AI capabilities into the same working environment rather than requiring teams to move between separate tools for different parts of their analysis.

Enterprise controls for financial firms

The new offering also comes with enterprise security and governance controls through ChatGPT. Firms can centrally manage access to the product as well as their data connections.

That gives financial institutions administrative controls over how the service is used across their organisations, while keeping financial data and AI capabilities within an enterprise-focused environment.

A more traceable approach to AI-assisted analysis

The emphasis on citations is one of the notable elements of OpenAI’s financial-services offering. Instead of treating an AI-generated response as the end of the research process, the product is designed to let bankers examine the evidence behind figures and claims as their work progresses.

OpenAI’s launch brings together financial data providers, research capabilities, modelling support and enterprise controls in a single ChatGPT Work experience. With Morgan Stanley and Evercore involved in shaping the product, OpenAI is targeting the specific workflows of financial institutions as it expands ChatGPT further into professional use.
