In a significant leadership development, Meta has expanded the responsibilities of Sandhya Devanathan, the Vice President of Meta India, to include the broader Southeast Asia region.

A Strategic Shift in Regional Leadership

Sandhya Devanathan, who has been instrumental in guiding Meta India through a period of rapid digital evolution and regulatory changes, will now oversee operations across key Southeast Asian markets including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

Driving Growth and Innovation in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia’s young, mobile-first population and booming digital economy make it a rapidly growing market for Meta. It is anticipated that under Devanathan’s direction, Meta would make more investments in business solutions, AI-powered tools, and creative ecosystems that support small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the region. Sandhya Devanathan focus will also include expanding metaverse initiatives, supporting digital literacy programs, and engaging with local stakeholders on tech regulation and online safety.

Proven Leadership and Regional Expertise

Sandhya Devanathan joined Meta in 2016 and has held several senior positions across Asia-Pacific. Before taking over as the head of Meta India in 2022, she led Meta’s gaming efforts for the APAC region and managed country operations for Singapore and Vietnam. With a strong background in fintech and technology leadership, her appointment to oversee Southeast Asia comes as no surprise to industry observers.

A Step Forward for Female Leadership in Tech

In addition to marking a turning point for female leadership in technology, Devanathan’s expanded role emphasises the importance of gender diversity at the top of corporate decision-making. Her professional path continues to inspire a new generation of women in technology and digital enterprises, as she is one of the few Asian women in command of major tech operations.

Meta’s choice to give Sandhya Devanathan more leadership duties is a calculated move towards the cogent development of South and Southeast Asia. Given how quickly the digital landscape is evolving, her background and local expertise put her in a strong position to spearhead Meta’s mission of promoting technology and building communities in diverse, high-potential areas.
