JSW Motors’ upcoming Combat SUV has been spotted testing alongside the Mahindra Thar Roxx, offering a rare side-by-side look at two boxy SUVs with distinctly different design approaches. The latest spy shots provide a clearer sense of the Combat’s size, proportions and styling as JSW prepares the model for its expected festive-season launch.
The Combat and Thar Roxx both follow a rugged SUV formula, with upright windscreens, pronounced wheel arches and spare wheels mounted at the rear. However, the two models take different approaches to their exterior design.
The JSW Combat gets a flat bonnet and rectangular headlamps, giving its front end a more angular appearance. At the rear, it features an enclosed spare-wheel cover and vertically positioned tail-lamps. The Thar Roxx, meanwhile, uses circular headlights, a curved bonnet and an exposed spare wheel.
Combat Has a Broader Stance Than the Thar Roxx
The side-by-side sighting also puts the dimensions of the two SUVs into perspective.
The Combat measures 4,785 mm in length and 2,006 mm in width, making it 357 mm longer and 136 mm wider than the Thar Roxx. The Mahindra SUV measures 4,428 mm in length and 1,870 mm in width.
Interestingly, the Combat is slightly lower. Its reported height stands at 1,870 mm compared with 1,923 mm for the Thar Roxx. The Roxx also has a marginally longer wheelbase at 2,850 mm, while the Combat has a 2,800 mm wheelbase.

These proportions give the Combat a wider and more substantial stance, while the Thar Roxx remains taller with a slightly longer wheelbase.
Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Sets Combat Apart
One of the biggest differences between the two SUVs is expected to be under the skin.
The Combat is set to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery. The setup is expected to produce 360 hp and 610 Nm of torque, with front-wheel drive and a three-speed hybrid transmission.
The plug-in hybrid system is also expected to offer around 90 km of electric range, while the combined driving range could reach up to 1,200 km.
This gives the Combat a different proposition from the conventional internal combustion engine options associated with the Thar Roxx, combining the SUV’s rugged design with a hybrid-focused powertrain.
Combat Borrows From the Jetour T2
The JSW Combat is based on Chery’s Jetour T2, retaining much of the donor SUV’s design and features while receiving JSW-specific branding and changes.
The latest test vehicle also appears to be evaluating technology features. An auto-brake warning can be seen on the spare-wheel cover in the spy shots. The global Jetour T2’s technology package includes features such as adaptive cruise control and other driver-assistance systems.
The latest appearance has also drawn attention because the Combat was photographed directly alongside the Thar Roxx, making the differences in body proportions and exterior detailing easier to see.
Launch Expected Before Diwali 2026
JSW is expected to launch the Combat before Diwali 2026. The SUV is expected to be locally assembled at the company’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra.
The expected price range is Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. With its combination of boxy styling, a plug-in hybrid powertrain and premium-oriented design details, the Combat is being positioned for buyers looking for a different take on the lifestyle SUV formula.
The final positioning, specifications and pricing will become clearer closer to the launch.
