The Board of Control for Cricket in India has once again demonstrated its financial resilience, recording a sharp rise in its general fund even after losing a major sponsor and facing lower income from international cricket events. Despite these setbacks, the BCCI strengthened its reserves through new sponsorship agreements and disciplined financial management.
According to details reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI managed to overcome the impact of Dream11’s withdrawal as a sponsor and a reduction in its share of revenue from International Cricket Council events. Fresh commercial partnerships and steady interest income played a key role in keeping the Board’s finances firmly on track.
Dream11 Withdrawal Creates Early Setback
The biggest challenge for the BCCI came in August, when fantasy gaming platform Dream11 pulled out of its sponsorship agreement worth Rs 358 crore. The exit followed the government’s passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025, which affected several companies operating in the online gaming space. The loss of such a high-value sponsor was seen as a significant blow to the Board’s commercial income for the year.
In addition to Dream11, other sponsors were also impacted by recent legislative changes, putting further pressure on sponsorship revenues during the financial year.

New Deals Restore Commercial Momentum
The BCCI responded swiftly to the situation by securing new sponsorship arrangements. Deals with Adidas and Apollo Tyres helped bridge the revenue gap created by Dream11’s exit. According to the report, the Board successfully locked in a new jersey sponsorship at a higher valuation for a fresh two-and-a-half-year cycle, ensuring continuity in one of its most visible commercial assets.
These agreements proved crucial in stabilising revenues and reinforcing the BCCI’s position as one of the most attractive properties in global sports sponsorship.
General Fund Sees Strong Growth
Former BCCI treasurer and current joint secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia presented the draft budget for the 2025-26 financial year along with the audited accounts for 2024 and 2025. The numbers highlighted a significant improvement in the Board’s financial position.
The BCCI’s general fund increased from Rs 7,988 crore to Rs 11,346 crore, resulting in a surplus of Rs 3,358 crore. The report attributed this growth to strong revenue streams and careful financial management, even in a year marked by external challenges.
Income Projection Reflects ICC Revenue Shortfall
For the 2025-26 financial year, the BCCI has projected an income of Rs 8,693 crore. This figure is slightly lower than the previous year, mainly due to a shortfall in revenues from ICC events. Global tournament cycles often influence annual earnings, and the dip reflects a leaner ICC calendar during the period.
Even so, the projected income underscores the Board’s ability to generate substantial revenues from domestic cricket, bilateral series, sponsorships, and other commercial activities.
Interest Income Adds Financial Cushion
One of the standout aspects of the budget is the rise in interest income. For the upcoming financial year, the BCCI has estimated interest earnings of Rs 1,500 crore, up from Rs 1,368 crore in the previous year. The increase has been credited to strong treasury management and the Board’s overall healthy financial position.
Returns from investments continue to provide a stable and reliable source of income, helping the BCCI maintain financial strength independent of match-related revenues.
Provisions Made for Taxes and Legal Matters
Bhatia also confirmed that the BCCI has made adequate provisions for its statutory and contingent liabilities. The Board has set aside Rs 3,320 crore towards income tax obligations. In addition, contingencies of Rs 1,000 crore have been earmarked, along with around Rs 160 crore to cover pending litigation costs.
These allocations reflect a cautious approach, ensuring that future obligations are addressed without disrupting day-to-day operations or long-term planning.
Financial Strength Holds Firm
Despite the loss of a major sponsor and reduced ICC income, the BCCI’s latest financial disclosures paint a picture of stability and preparedness. The sharp rise in the general fund, steady income projections, and growing interest earnings underline the Board’s ability to navigate regulatory changes and market shifts.
As the BCCI moves into the 2025-26 financial year, its strong reserves and diversified revenue streams place it in a solid position to continue investing in Indian cricket while maintaining financial discipline.
