Education pricing brings the starting cost down for eligible buyers. The final configuration and price will depend on the selected model and specifications.

Apple MacBook Pro Availability and Pre-Orders

Apple opened pre-orders for the new MacBook Pro on October 28 through its online store and the Apple Store app in 30 countries and regions, including the US.

The laptop is scheduled to begin reaching customers and arriving at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorised Resellers from November 9.

The announcement also lists November 6 as the date from which the laptop will be available. However, the supplied launch details do not fully clarify how this date relates to the November 9 customer deliveries and retail availability.

Touchscreen OLED Display Comes to MacBook Pro

The biggest change in the new MacBook Pro is its PROLED XDR display, which introduces tandem OLED technology to the lineup.

Apple says the display combines advanced algorithms, real-time pixel control and precise panel calibration to deliver consistent image quality. The company has also focused on brightness, contrast and responsiveness, making the screen suitable for professional creative work.

The display offers peak HDR and SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. ProMotion technology supports adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz, balancing power efficiency with smoother movement on screen.

Touch functionality is integrated directly into the display panel rather than being added as a separate layer on top. Apple says this approach reduces latency, helping interactions feel more immediate.

The addition of touch controls gives users another way to interact with macOS, alongside the keyboard and trackpad.

Dynamic Island Arrives on the Mac

Another notable addition is Dynamic Island, a feature previously associated with the iPhone that now comes to the MacBook Pro.

It provides a compact space for viewing and interacting with information without having to move away from the current task. Users can handle phone calls, control music and view important updates from the interface.

Live Activities also bring timely information to the screen. For example, users can accept an AirDrop request or pause a song with a tap.

The feature adds another layer of interaction to the MacBook Pro, particularly for users who regularly switch between applications while working.

New MacBook Pro Gets a Thinner and Lighter Design

Despite introducing new display technology, Apple has made the latest MacBook Pro thinner and lighter than its predecessor.

The 14-inch model weighs approximately 3 pounds, or 1.36kg, making it half a pound lighter than before. The 16-inch model weighs around 4 pounds, a reduction of 0.7 pounds.

The company attributes the slimmer construction to the more efficient display stack enabled by OLED technology. The 16-inch model is nearly a millimetre thinner, while the 14-inch version is half a millimetre thinner.

These changes are intended to improve portability without moving away from the large-screen format used by professionals.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Power the New MacBook Pro

Apple has equipped the new MacBook Pro with its M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, positioning the two chips for different levels of professional workloads.

The M5 Pro is designed for users handling intensive tasks such as compiling code, running AI workloads, sequencing DNA and editing multiple streams of 8K ProRes video. Apple says the chip delivers improvements in single-core and multi-core CPU performance, alongside faster unified memory.

The M5 Max is aimed at users who need additional computing and graphics capabilities. This includes AI developers, 3D artists and film composers working with demanding projects.

Apple says the M5 Max can support running large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on the device. It is also designed to accelerate workflows involving visual effects, 3D animation, film scoring and 8K video post-production.

Both processors feature GPUs with enhanced shader cores and a third-generation ray-tracing engine. Dynamic Caching is designed to improve GPU utilisation, supporting demanding applications such as Blender and Unreal Engine, as well as AAA gaming.

The choice between the two chips will largely depend on the intensity of the work being performed and the computing resources required.

Up to 128GB Memory and 16TB Storage

The new MacBook Pro supports up to 128GB of unified memory and configurable storage of up to 16TB.

These options are particularly relevant for professionals working with large video files, complex 3D projects, extensive software builds and AI models that require substantial local resources.

The combination of high memory capacity and large storage configurations also allows users to keep more project files and applications available on the machine.

External display support differs by processor. The M5 Pro model can connect to up to three external displays, while the M5 Max version supports up to four.

Six-Speaker Audio System and Connectivity

Apple has upgraded the audio system with six speakers, promising 50% deeper bass and redesigned tweeters for improved sound clarity.

The laptop supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos for music and movies. Studio-quality microphones are designed to deliver clear sound during calls, recordings and voice interactions.

Another addition is dedicated audio tuning for use when the laptop is closed, a feature Apple says is available for the first time on the MacBook Pro.

Connectivity options include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are included for wireless connectivity, while Touch ID provides biometric authentication.

macOS 27 Brings New AI Features

The new MacBook Pro runs macOS 27, which introduces touch functionality designed for the operating system alongside a range of software features.

Apple is also highlighting Siri AI and Apple Intelligence capabilities across applications. Siri is designed to help users find information across messages, emails and photos, answer questions and perform tasks across apps.

The assistant is integrated into Spotlight and system-wide context menus. Users can also use Visual Intelligence to ask questions about content displayed on their screens through a dedicated keyboard shortcut.

Writing and editing assistance is available through Siri in supported text-entry areas.

Apple says these capabilities incorporate privacy protections, with the aim of making AI assistance more useful without compromising user privacy.

MacBook Pro Battery and Fast Charging

Apple has included fast charging on the new MacBook Pro. According to the company, the laptop can charge to 50% in approximately 30 minutes.

The battery is designed to support professional workflows, while the display’s adaptive refresh rate can reduce power consumption when higher refresh rates are not needed.

However, the supplied specifications do not include a specific battery-life figure, so runtime comparisons with earlier MacBook Pro models cannot be made from these details alone.

What the New MacBook Pro Means for Buyers

The new MacBook Pro represents a significant change for Apple’s professional laptop range by combining touchscreen interaction with tandem OLED technology and the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.

The 14-inch M5 Pro model is the entry point into the new lineup at ₹3,49,900. Buyers who need a larger screen can consider the 16-inch M5 Pro version, while the M5 Max configurations are positioned for more demanding computing and graphics workloads.

For professionals, the key additions extend beyond the touchscreen. The slimmer design, high memory and storage limits, upgraded audio system, expanded external display support and new macOS features all contribute to the overall package.

At the same time, the starting prices place the new MacBook Pro firmly in the premium segment. Buyers will need to weigh the benefits of the touchscreen and upgraded hardware against their existing workflow and computing requirements before choosing a configuration.
