Gurugram-based Korean food startup Gimi Michi has raised $1 million in a seed funding round led by IndiaQuotient, with participation from DeVC, Titan Capital, and IIMA Ventures. The funding marks an important step for the young consumer brand as it looks to strengthen its presence in India’s fast-growing Korean food segment.

Founded by Nishank Goyal, Akhil Kumar, and Bodhi Rathor, Gimi Michi is focused on building an authentic Korean fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand tailored for Indian consumers. The founding team brings experience from consulting and consumer-focused companies, including BCG, Mondelez, and AB InBev.

Fresh Capital to Accelerate Growth Plans

The company said the newly raised funds will be deployed across several key areas of the business. These include product development, team expansion, brand-building efforts, and strengthening its distribution network across quick commerce platforms.

The startup aims to use the investment to deepen its market presence while preparing for a broader product portfolio in the future.

Rapid Growth Within Months of Launch

Launched around six months ago, Gimi Michi entered the market with a focus on Korean ramen. Despite operating with a single product offering, the company claims it has emerged as the top-selling noodles brand on Flipkart.

According to the startup, it has crossed Rs 1 crore in monthly net sales and has been recording approximately 60 percent month-on-month growth. The company attributes this momentum to rising consumer interest in Korean cuisine and increasing demand for authentic international food products.

Demand Extends Beyond Metro Cities

A notable aspect of Gimi Michi’s growth has been its reach beyond major urban centers. The company said that nearly half of its sales are generated from Tier II and Tier III cities, highlighting the growing appeal of Korean food across a wider consumer base.

The startup also reported repeat purchase rates that are significantly above the category average across both e-commerce and quick commerce channels. This trend indicates sustained consumer interest and repeat demand for its products.

Riding the Korean Culture Wave

Gimi Michi’s strategy is closely tied to the growing popularity of Korean culture in India. Over the past few years, Korean entertainment, including K-dramas and K-pop, has built a large audience across the country, helping introduce consumers to Korean food and lifestyle trends.

The company believes that familiarity with Korean culture has created a strong foundation for wider adoption of Korean cuisine. With consumers increasingly seeking authentic food experiences, the startup is positioning itself to cater to this evolving demand.

Expanding Opportunity in the Food Market

Interest in Korean-inspired food products has been rising across the Indian FMCG sector. Several major companies, including ITC Limited, Nestlé, and Hindustan Unilever Limited, have launched Korean-inspired offerings in recent months, reflecting growing consumer appetite for the category.

Industry estimates also point to a significant long-term opportunity for ramen and related products in India. The category has gained visibility on quick commerce platforms, where Korean noodles account for a meaningful share of sales.

Looking Beyond Ramen

While ramen remains its core focus today, Gimi Michi is planning to broaden its product range as it scales operations. The company intends to expand into additional categories such as sauces, snacks, and ready-to-eat products.

By moving beyond a single category, the startup aims to establish itself as a dedicated Korean food brand in India and serve consumers seeking a wider range of Korean culinary experiences.

With fresh funding in place and growing consumer interest in Korean cuisine, Gimi Michi is preparing for its next phase of expansion as it works to build a stronger foothold in India’s evolving food and beverage market.
