Healthcare technology startup Docterz has raised Rs 5 crore from around 35 investors, including SUGAR Cosmetics co-founder and CEO Vineeta Singh, CaratLane co-founder and former CEO Avnish Anand, and doctors who use its platform.
The funding round stands out for the participation of the company’s own users. Around 20 doctors who use Docterz contributed nearly Rs 3 crore, accounting for approximately 60% of the total amount raised.
Founded by paediatrician Dr Atish Laddad more than a decade ago, Docterz provides technology tools to help doctors manage their practices, from maintaining patient records to handling appointments, billing and vaccination schedules.
The company plans to use the fresh capital to expand its business organically, explore acquisitions and develop artificial intelligence (AI) tools for doctors. It also intends to reach more independent practitioners, smaller clinics and healthcare organisations across India.
Doctors Invest Nearly Rs 3 Crore in a Platform They Use
The participation of practising doctors forms a significant part of the funding round. Rather than relying solely on external investors, Docterz has received a substantial portion of its capital from professionals who already use its technology in their day-to-day work.
The investor group includes paediatricians who have used the platform for several years. Their investment decisions reflect their experience with the product and their confidence in the company’s founder.
Dr Dhananjay Sangle, a paediatrician and Docterz investor, said his decision to invest was influenced by his long-standing experience with the platform and his confidence in Dr Laddad.
Vineeta Singh also pointed to customer participation as an important signal for a business. She said doctors investing in Docterz reflected their trust in the platform and its founder.
Dr Suhas Warad, another paediatrician who has invested in the company, said technology built around doctors’ requirements could help them manage their practices more efficiently and spend more time caring for patients.
Docterz Supports More Than 5,000 Doctors
Docterz offers an integrated platform covering several operational requirements of a medical practice. Its features include electronic medical records, appointment scheduling, billing, vaccination management and patient engagement.
The platform supports more than 5,000 doctors across India, with a strong presence in paediatrics.
By bringing these functions together, the company aims to help healthcare professionals manage administrative responsibilities through a single system. Its focus on doctors’ everyday workflows also provides the foundation for its plans to develop AI-enabled tools.
The company is working on AI features designed to assist with medical documentation, administrative tasks, practice data analysis and patient follow-ups. These tools are intended to support doctors in handling routine work associated with running a practice.
Expansion and AI Development on the Roadmap
With the new funding, Docterz plans to pursue organic growth while exploring potential acquisitions. The company also intends to broaden its reach beyond its existing user base by targeting independent practitioners, smaller clinics and healthcare organisations.
AI development is another priority. By incorporating AI into documentation and other administrative workflows, Docterz aims to make its platform more useful to doctors managing busy practices.
The company’s approach combines practice-management software with tools intended to reduce the administrative burden on healthcare professionals. The latest funding will support its efforts to expand this offering and reach more doctors across the country.
The participation of existing users also gives the funding round a distinctive dimension. With around 20 doctor-users contributing nearly three-fifths of the capital raised, Docterz has secured investment from professionals who have direct experience with the platform they are backing.
