Ankit Mehrotra and Sahil Jain, the successful co-founders of restaurant-tech platform Dineout, have launched their newest healthcare project, The Medical Travel Company (TMTC), after raising $4.5 million in seed funds. The startup strives to disrupt cross-border healthcare by simplifying medical tourism for international patients who want treatment in India.

Funding and High-Profile Backers

The major round of financing was led by Nexus Venture Partners. It also saw significant participation from Kriscore Capital and 4CAST, which is an investment group with international cricketers Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and KL Rahul.

The roster of investors further includes prominent angel figures such as Sriharsha Majety, Abhishek Goyal, Ritesh Malik, Manish Vij, and Arjun Vaidya, along with 1947 Rise Fund and Peercheque. The backing highlights strong investor confidence in TMTC’s operational model and its potential to address existing gaps in the global medical tourism sector.

Addressing the Medical Tourism Challenge

TMTC is strategically placed to address the fundamental issues detected in the area of medical tourism, specifically for patients in a country such as the UK who are confronting an exponential rise in healthcare costs and extensive waiting periods for elective surgery. The startup is going to facilitate the process by addressing paperwork and logistical concerns that have historically inhibited patients from seeking treatment overseas, such as:

  • Lack of clear guidance on hospital selection.
  • Fragmented care coordination.
  • Language barriers and visa complexity.
  • Uncertainty regarding quality of care and insurance coverage.

TMTC’s End-to-End Solution

TMTC’s core offering is an end-to-end patient management service that connects UK patients with accredited hospitals and clinics in India. The service manages every phase of the patient’s journey, ensuring a seamless experience that meets international quality standards.

Key services provided by TMTC include:

  • Logistics: Travel arrangements, visa assistance, airport transfers, and hospital admissions.
  • Clinical Oversight: Provision of UK-standard medical oversight and access to essential post-surgery insurance.
  • Recovery: Coordination of post-treatment rehabilitation.

The organization uses technology, such as digital patient management systems, to monitor and enhance all stages of treatment, from pre-surgery appointments to post-operative follow-ups, to facilitate communication and continual caregiving. Technology is combined with a patient-centric approach that fosters openness about pricing and provides a concierge service.

Expansion and Future Vision

Having secured initial funding, TMTC intends to scale operations considerably in India and the UK, as well as exploring other major international markets within the next three to four years, namely the US, Canada, Australia, and certain countries in Europe, as part of its growth strategy. The founders’ expressed ambition is to create a global ecosystem for medical tourism that provides quality, transparency, and ease of access to cross-border healthcare.
