The 2026 Emmy Awards produced a night of standout performances, first-time victories and honors spread across some of television’s biggest shows.

The Pitt claimed Outstanding Drama Series, while Widow’s Bay emerged as the strongest performer in comedy, winning Outstanding Comedy Series along with several acting, writing and directing awards. DTF St. Louis took the top prize in the limited or anthology series category.

Matthew Rhys delivered one of the night’s most significant achievements. He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast In Me. The two victories made Rhys the first actor to win lead performance awards in two different categories in the same year.

‘Widow’s Bay’ emerges as the comedy leader

Widow’s Bay had a particularly strong night.

Along with taking Outstanding Comedy Series, the show secured the lead comedy actor prize for Matthew Rhys. Kate O’Flynn won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, while Stephen Root was named Outstanding Supporting Actor.

The series also won in two major creative categories. Hiro Murai received the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, while Katie Dippold won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Jean Smart prevented a complete sweep of the major comedy acting categories, taking Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks. It marked her fifth win in the category for the show.

‘The Pitt’ takes television’s top drama prize

The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, with Noah Wyle also winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in the show.

The rest of the major drama awards were shared among several productions.

Rhea Seehorn won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus, marking her first Emmy victory.

Tom Pelphrey won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Task, while Allison Janney took Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Diplomat.

Vince Gilligan won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for Pluribus, while Saul Metzstein received Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Slow Horses.

‘DTF St. Louis’ wins Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series

DTF St. Louis secured Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and also picked up two supporting acting prizes.

Linda Cardellini won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, while David Harbour won Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Sally Field won Outstanding Lead Actress in the category for Remarkably Bright Creatures. Matthew Rhys won the corresponding lead actor award for The Beast In Me.

Matthew Rhys leaves with a rare double

While several shows shared the drama honors, Rhys provided the ceremony’s clearest individual milestone.

His victories for Widow’s Bay and The Beast In Me gave him lead acting wins in two separate Emmy categories on the same night. He had previously won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Americans in 2018, giving him lead-category victories across drama, comedy and limited-series television.

Elsewhere, Rhea Seehorn’s win for Pluribus ended a long wait for her first Emmy, while Jean Smart continued her run with Hacks by securing another lead comedy actress trophy.

With The Pitt taking the top drama honor, Widow’s Bay dominating comedy and DTF St. Louis leading the limited-series field, the 2026 Emmys ultimately spread their biggest prizes across several productions rather than allowing one show to control the entire night.
