The Story of RCX Lighting: For decades, Bihar’s best-known success stories have been tied to exam halls, competitive tests, government jobs, and the long grind of civil services preparation.
But a quiet shift is now visible in small towns too: young people are building products, pitching businesses, and chasing a different kind of certainty, one they create for themselves.
A recent example comes from Chapra in Saran district, where entrepreneur Ravichand Sharma took his startup RCX Lighting Private Limited to national television on Shark Tank India, and secured a Rs 50 lakh investment after his pitch caught the attention of Aman Gupta (boAt).

A childhood spent with wires, lights and curiosity
Ravichand’s entry into the lighting business didn’t begin with a corporate plan. It began at home. His father works as an electrician, and Ravichand, the report notes, grew up around the everyday language of wiring, repairs, and practical problem-solving.
While other kids played, he spent time making small lighting models and projects, early experiments that later turned into a professional direction.
That interest translated into recognition in school. Ravichand won national awards in school competitions held in cities including Chandigarh and Kolkata, which, as the report describes, gave him the confidence that his hobby could become a real career.
The college detour and a risky decision
After school, he enrolled in BTech Electrical Engineering at Chandigarh University, supported through Bihar government’s student credit card scheme.
But somewhere during those studies, the plan changed. Ravichand decided he didn’t want to wait for a job offer, he wanted to build something of his own. With family support, he dropped out to focus fully on the business.
Building RCX Lighting with partners from the ground up
Ravichand didn’t do it alone. He started RCX Lighting with partners Ravi Kumar and Prince Kumar, focusing on modern digital display and building lighting systems, with an emphasis on affordability.
In 2022, RCX received financial support through the Bihar government’s entrepreneurship scheme, which helped the startup scale faster.
From local ambition to big-city skylines
As RCX grew, its work began showing up far from Chapra. RCX’s lighting projects appeared on large buildings and towers in cities like Mumbai, and also in Dubai.
A key part of the company’s pitch is the visual impact of its installations, designs the report compares to iconic structures “like the Burj Khalifa,” suggesting the startup is leaning into high-visibility, landmark-style lighting work as a signature strength.
The Shark Tank moment and the Rs 50 lakh vote of confidence
That trajectory led to Shark Tank India, where Ravichand and team presented RCX Lighting on the show. The report says Aman Gupta, founder of boAt, offered Rs 50 lakh as an investment, while other sharks praised the idea and its future potential.
For a founder from a small town, it’s the kind of validation that does more than fund a business, it signals that Bihar’s startup stories are no longer rare exceptions on national platforms.
The Significance Of The Story
It’s easy to treat a Shark Tank cheque as the whole headline. But the deeper point here is the route Ravichand took: a skill developed early, formal education started (and then left behind), a small-town team building a specialised business, and government-linked support accelerating growth.
If Bihar’s youth are changing the state’s narrative, it likely won’t happen through one grand announcement. It will happen through repeat stories like this, where the ambition is local, but the market is national (and sometimes global).
