The former child star was detained in California following an encounter with police during a traffic stop in Westlake Village.

But there is an important detail that changes how the incident unfolded.

Thomas was not behind the wheel.

The 45-year-old actor was reportedly sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle when police pulled it over on Monday. What began as a traffic stop involving someone else’s driving then developed into an encounter involving Thomas himself.

According to reports, Thomas stepped out of the vehicle during the stop. Officers instructed him to remain inside, but he allegedly did not comply with those directions.

That interaction ultimately led to his detention for allegedly obstructing or resisting an executive officer.

For now, the clearest picture is also a relatively simple one: Thomas was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police, stepped outside during the encounter, was told to remain inside and was later detained after allegedly failing to comply with officers.
