Mitsubishi is preparing to bring back one of its most recognisable SUV nameplates, with the all-new Pajero scheduled to make its global debut on September 2. The fifth-generation model marks the return of the Pajero after the previous generation was discontinued and is expected to retain the off-road focus that has defined the nameplate for decades.
Ahead of the global premiere, Mitsubishi has already confirmed one of the new SUV’s most distinctive features. The iconic Multi Meter is returning, although it has been redesigned as a modern digital display. The company is gradually revealing details of the new Pajero before its official unveiling.

A New Pajero With a Familiar Off-Road Identity
The fifth-generation Pajero is expected to use a body-on-frame construction based on a ladder-frame platform derived from the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. A four-wheel-drive system is also expected to form a key part of the SUV’s mechanical package.
Mitsubishi has not yet disclosed the complete specifications of the new model. However, the platform and drivetrain direction suggest that the new Pajero will continue to focus on rugged driving capability rather than moving entirely towards a road-oriented SUV format.
The company has also kept most of the exterior design under wraps. Teasers released ahead of the debut indicate a rugged design that combines Mitsubishi’s latest styling approach with elements inspired by the Pajero’s heritage.
Rugged Proportions Meet Modern Styling
The new Pajero is expected to be larger and more substantial than its predecessor, while retaining the upright proportions traditionally associated with an off-road SUV. The available teasers point towards a design intended to give the model a strong and purposeful appearance.
Mitsubishi has yet to reveal important details such as the SUV’s exact dimensions, ground clearance and available wheel options. These details are expected to become clearer when the Pajero is officially unveiled on September 2.

Digital Multi Meter Returns With a Modern Touch
One of the most notable confirmed features is the return of the Multi Meter. Earlier Pajero generations became known for their distinctive triple-gauge setup, and Mitsubishi is now bringing the concept into the digital era.
The new digital Multi Meter will display information including altitude, compass heading, ambient temperature, pitch and roll angles, and left-right torque distribution.
These readings are particularly relevant when driving across challenging terrain. Pitch and roll information can help the driver understand the vehicle’s position on steep or uneven surfaces, while torque distribution data can indicate how the four-wheel-drive system is responding to changing traction conditions.
Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed the exact location of the Multi Meter inside the cabin.
Triton-Based Platform and Four-Wheel Drive
The new Pajero is expected to use the Triton-derived ladder-frame architecture, providing the foundation for its body-on-frame construction and off-road capability.
A 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission is expected to power the SUV. However, Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed the engine’s final specifications, so details such as its output remain undisclosed.
The SUV is also expected to offer a towing capacity of around 3,500kg and a water-wading depth of approximately 800mm. These figures have not yet been officially confirmed by Mitsubishi and therefore remain subject to change.
Modern Safety and Cabin Technology
While Mitsubishi has not announced the complete safety package, the new Pajero is expected to feature a range of modern safety and driver-assistance technologies.
The cabin is also expected to combine the SUV’s traditional rugged character with contemporary equipment, including digital displays and connected technology. Further details about the interior and safety systems are expected to be announced around the global debut.
International Launch Planned for 2027
Mitsubishi has not yet announced the price of the new Pajero or provided detailed market-specific launch information. The SUV is expected to go on sale internationally in 2027, although availability is likely to differ from one market to another.
For India, Mitsubishi has not officially confirmed whether the fifth-generation Pajero will be launched. If the SUV eventually enters the Indian market, it would face competition in the premium body-on-frame SUV segment from models such as the MG Majestor and Toyota Fortuner.
For now, the global debut on September 2 will provide the first complete look at Mitsubishi’s long-awaited Pajero revival and reveal how closely the new-generation SUV stays connected to the nameplate’s off-road roots.
