The Kumbh Mela has always been attended by millions of pilgrims who seek spiritual cleansing in holy rivers. This year, however, it is no longer just a grand event but has become an Arena of Seva opportunity as well. The immersion within the sacred waters of sangam at Prayagraj, celebrates millions of people seeking spiritual cleansing. At this once in a life time event even the industry leaders are beginning to serve devotees in a distinctly different manner. Chairman of the Adani group Gautam Adani has significantly aided the lifting of the corporate veil at the Kumbh Mela with his initiatives.
Through the Adani Foundation, he pioneered a wide-ranging Seva initiative that other corporates want to emulate. Adani Group, in collaboration with ISKON and Gita Press, has been sponsoring the distribution of lunch prasad to millions of devotees during the Mela. The puris, rice, sweetened dal, and vegetable breakfast are some of the simple yet energy-replenishing meals that aid the long-awaited travellers to feel rejuvenated.
The scope of this service is huge, as the Adani Foundation nourishes approximately one lakh (100,000) devotees daily. To support the Adani Foundation’s seva, several service centres have been established within the Kumbh Mela Area, where food is served to devotees between 11 AM and 3 PM and from 7 PM to 11 PM. 300 staff members have been employed to help with this service, including cooks, servers, and sanitation workers who focus on hygiene.
Gautam Adani’s philosophy of service is best illustrated with this statement: “Seva Saadhna Hai, Seve Prarthna Hai aur Seva hi Parmatma hai”. That’s the exact reason for his work. Adani holds the view that seva is a way of promoting a connection between divinity and human beings. His work with Kumbh Mela demonstrates these beliefs.
Adani’s Seva Expands Beyond Food Distribution
The Adani Group, through its partnership with Iskcon, seeks to enhance the spiritual nourishment of pilgrimage with the distribution of meals. This year, Adani group joined hands with Gita Press, the oldest Press of India publishing religious sacred Hindu books and Aarti Copies to aid the distribution of one Aarti Sangrah per pilgrim. Expecting to distribute ten million copies. These free copies of holy hymns, prayers, and Aarti Sangrah fascicles are freely accessible to all pilgrims.
The Adani Group has also positively added value to the overall Kumbh Mela experience with golf carts for pilgrims, especially the elderly and disabled, to take them around the extensive Mela grounds. Furthermore, Adani has placed significant emphasis on cleanliness and sanitation by installing waste management systems and employing staff for hygiene across the Kumbh area.
Ambani Joins Hands: Reliance Foundation’s Contribution to Kumbh Seva
Taking the seva initiative forward, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Foundation has also taken significant steps to contribute to the ongoing Seva movement at the Kumbh Mela. The Reliance Foundation began its own food distribution program at Kila Road in Prayagraj.
The foundation is serving one lakh (100,000) pilgrims daily, providing them with wholesome meals. Much like Adani’s initiative, the food distribution program is managed by a dedicated team, including cooks, servers, and sanitation staff.
The foundation’s efforts are not only food distribution but also large-scale sanitation and health care services so that the pilgrims enjoy a safe and clean environment where they can carry out their religious rituals. This wide approach clearly indicates the increased mainstream engagement of corporate entities in promoting Kumbh Mall attendees’ physical as well as spiritual needs.

The Kumbh Mela: A Seva Akhada
This year’s Kumbh Mela has indeed turned into a real “Seva Akhada” where the path of service to humanity finds a place besides devotion to the divine. It speaks volumes of the deepening involvement of the corporate sector in social and spiritual causes that such giants as Adani and Ambani are participating. Not is this philanthropic in nature; rather, their contribution is where the success of the business dovetails with social good and upholds the company’s role as part of societal betterment concerning the lives being led by these spiritual seekers who have come out in search.
Seva with the Adani Group is so ingrained as part of corporate ethos. Their contributions reflect a vision of shared prosperity, in which the prosperity of the company is interlinked with the prosperity of the people and communities that it serves. In this regard, their Mahaprasad Seva initiative is not only a corporate social responsibility project but a spiritual calling that resonates with the philosophy of selfless service (seva) that is deeply ingrained in Hindu culture.
Gautam Adani and His Family’s Visit to Kumbh
Gautam Adani and his family have also gone to the Kumbh Mela as a part of his seva commitment. During their visit, they engaged actively in the Mahaprasad Seva by distributing food to pilgrims and interacting with the staff that worked round-the-clock to offer these services. The presence of Adani at Kumbh signifies that for him, seva is worship and a means of connecting to the divine and the service of society.

The Power of Seva: A Philosophy for the Modern World
The philosophy of Seva reminds one of how success should be measured in financial terms and its positive influence on the lives of others. It is all about selfless action, humility, and acknowledging the divine presence in every human being. It was very clear through the efforts at Kumbh Mela that business leaders do have a big responsibility toward society and that such responsibilities can be achieved both materially and spiritually.
