The spiritual-tech startup is giving participating employees an opportunity to sell a portion of their shares and realise some of the value created during the company’s growth. The buyback is reported to be funded from AstroTalk’s business profits rather than through a fresh external funding round.
From astrology consultations to spiritual commerce
Founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, AstroTalk began as an online platform for astrology consultations. The company has since widened its business into spiritual commerce through AstroTalk Store, which sells products including gemstones, rudrakshas, bracelets and other spiritual items.
The expansion has added another revenue stream to a business originally centred on connecting customers with astrologers.
AstroTalk Store generated more than Rs 140 crore in revenue in 2025 and processed over 1.6 million orders during the period, indicating the growing contribution of commerce to the company’s overall operations.
Revenue from operations reached Rs 1,176 crore in FY25
AstroTalk reported revenue from operations of Rs 1,176 crore in FY25, up from Rs 651 crore in the previous year. Total income stood at Rs 1,214 crore.
Profit before tax rose to Rs 285 crore from Rs 127 crore in the preceding year.
The financial numbers provide important context to the reported profit-funded ESOP transaction. AstroTalk is not only creating liquidity for more than 100 employees but is doing so at a point when its revenue and pre-tax profit have moved substantially above the levels reported a year earlier.
Valuation moves from roughly $300 million to $1 billion
The reported $1 billion valuation represents a sharp change from AstroTalk’s roughly $300 million valuation reported in 2024.
For employees participating in the ESOP buyback, the transaction provides an opportunity to convert part of their shareholding into liquidity without waiting for an initial public offering, acquisition or another external funding transaction.
For AstroTalk, the development marks a new stage in a journey that began with digital astrology consultations and has expanded into a broader spiritual commerce business.
The combination of a reported $1 billion valuation, liquidity for more than 100 employees and a buyback said to be funded from business profits places the employee transaction at the centre of AstroTalk’s latest milestone rather than treating it simply as another startup funding event.
