David Ellison unveils Skydance as the new corporate identity for the combined entertainment company, with the merger tentatively scheduled to close on October 6.

The huge movie studio conglomerates, Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers, are about to unite into one organization known as Skydance following the completion of the proposed merger of both for $110 billion dollars.

The news was announced on Friday, October 2, by David Ellison. The move entails changing the name of the merged organization while retaining their brand names.

The announcement comes just days before the transaction’s tentative closing date of October 6, following recent developments in legal challenges surrounding the merger.

Ellison shared the new identity through a post on X, describing Skydance as a creative-focused company built around the combined strengths of Paramount and Warner Bros.

The name is derived from Skydance Media, which is Ellison’s media production company. In addition, it is yet another milestone in the corporate history of the company following the merger of Skydance with Paramount Global and National Amusements in 2025, leading to the Paramount Skydance name.

Why Paramount and Warner Bros. Chose the Name Skydance?

Although the combined company will operate as Skydance, the decision is not intended to erase the individual identities of Paramount or Warner Bros.

Ellison explained that the two studios have their own histories, audiences and brand recognition, making it important to introduce a corporate name that could represent the larger organisation while keeping both entertainment brands visible.

Rather than create an entirely unfamiliar identity or place one studio’s name ahead of the other, the company has chosen to build its parent identity around Skydance.

In his announcement, Ellison said the objective was to give Paramount and Warner Bros. room to develop independently within a larger business, supported by the combined company’s resources and capabilities.

The choice also reflects his ambitions for Skydance, which he said would pursue future opportunities through creativity, imagination and a willingness to take calculated risks.

What Will Come Under the Combined Skydance Business?

The merger extends beyond the two Hollywood film studios. It will bring together a substantial collection of entertainment businesses spanning cinema, television, news and streaming.

Among the services and television networks included in the combination are:

  • Streaming platforms: HBO Max and Paramount+
  • Television and news networks: CBS, CNN, MTV, TBS, Comedy Central and Food Network

The arrangement will place these businesses under the broader Skydance corporate structure following the completion of the transaction.

For Paramount and Warner Bros., Ellison’s stated priority is to retain their established identities while using the resources of the combined organisation to support future productions and reach wider international audiences.

His announcement, however, did not provide further details about potential changes to the individual streaming services or television network brands.

$110 Billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger Nears Closing Date

The naming announcement follows a series of legal developments involving the $110 billion deal.

On Tuesday, a federal judge in California resolved a lawsuit brought by 12 state attorneys general, including California, who had opposed the merger.

The development followed an earlier settlement reached by Paramount in a separate antitrust lawsuit, bringing the transaction closer to its proposed completion.

The merger is now tentatively scheduled to close on October 6, 2026.

The completion timeline remains provisional, meaning the new corporate identity will formally take effect once the transaction is finalised.

What Happens to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav?

The merger is also expected to bring a major leadership change at Warner Bros. Discovery.

David Zaslav, the company’s current Chief Executive Officer, is expected to step down following the completion of the deal.

He is reportedly set to receive more than $550 million in stock and cash, a figure that includes $34.2 million in cash severance payments.

With the Skydance name now revealed and October 6 approaching as the tentative closing date, the transaction is entering its final scheduled stage.

For two studios whose names have been associated with Hollywood for generations, the proposed arrangement introduces a shared corporate identity while retaining the Paramount and Warner Bros. brands at the centre of their respective businesses.
