India’s residential solar energy sector received a significant boost as SolarSquare announced the closure of a $53 million Series C funding round led by B Capital. Existing investors including Lightspeed, Elevation Capital, Lowercarbon Capital, Rainmatter, and Good Capital also participated in the round.
With this latest investment, SolarSquare’s total funding has crossed the $100 million mark, strengthening its position in the rapidly growing residential rooftop solar market.
Fresh Capital to Drive Growth Plans
Founded in 2015 by Shreya Mishra, Neeraj Jain, and Nikhil Nahar, SolarSquare offers end-to-end rooftop solar solutions for homeowners. Its services cover the entire customer journey, including consultation, system design, installation, financing assistance, and long-term maintenance.
The company plans to use the newly raised capital to accelerate its expansion into new cities across India. The funds will also support the enhancement of its technology platform, recruitment of talent, and scaling of its broader home energy ecosystem. This includes solar installations, financing products, battery storage systems, and energy management solutions designed for residential consumers.
The investment comes at a time when demand for clean and cost-effective energy solutions is rising among Indian households.
Building a Large Residential Solar Network
Over the years, SolarSquare has focused exclusively on the residential rooftop solar segment. According to the company, it has enabled more than 50,000 homes across India to adopt solar energy solutions.
The startup also stated that it is currently operating at an annual revenue run rate exceeding Rs 1,000 crore, reflecting the growing adoption of rooftop solar among homeowners.
SolarSquare says it manages the country’s largest portfolio of residential solar assets. The company also notes that it was the first player in India to introduce performance guarantees for rooftop solar installations, a move aimed at increasing consumer confidence in the technology and ensuring long-term system efficiency.

Residential Solar Adoption Gains Momentum
The latest funding round arrives amid strong momentum in India’s residential solar sector. Rising electricity costs and supportive government initiatives have encouraged more homeowners to explore solar energy as a long-term solution for reducing power bills.
One of the major policy drivers has been the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which seeks to increase rooftop solar adoption across the country through financial incentives and support mechanisms.
According to SolarSquare, India has approximately 70 million residential rooftops that are technically suitable for solar installations. Despite this large opportunity, rooftop solar penetration remains below 5%, indicating substantial room for future growth.
The company believes the market is entering a new phase of adoption. Speaking about the evolution of the sector, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Shreya Mishra highlighted how residential solar has moved from an emerging category to one witnessing rapid adoption across the country.
Continuing Investor Confidence
The latest investment follows SolarSquare’s previous funding round in December 2024, when the company raised $40 million in a Series B round led by Lightspeed. That round also saw participation from Lightrock, Elevation Capital, Lowercarbon Capital, Rainmatter, and Gruhas Proptech.
The back-to-back funding rounds underscore continued investor confidence in the company’s business model and the broader growth prospects of India’s residential clean energy market.
As households increasingly seek reliable and affordable energy alternatives, companies focused on rooftop solar are attracting greater attention from investors looking to participate in the country’s energy transition.
Competing in a Growing Market
SolarSquare operates in a competitive residential rooftop solar landscape alongside companies such as ZunRoof, Glow Solar, Mysun, Oorjan Cleantech, and Freyr Energy.
To distinguish itself in the market, SolarSquare has focused on a vertically integrated operating model that allows it to manage multiple aspects of the customer experience. The company also emphasizes its technology-driven approach and performance guarantees as key differentiators in a sector where trust, reliability, and long-term system performance play a critical role in customer adoption.
With fresh capital in hand and growing consumer interest in rooftop solar, SolarSquare is positioning itself to expand its footprint and capture a larger share of India’s evolving residential energy market.
