Food delivery startup Amigo has raised Rs 4.5 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Foxhog, marking an early milestone in the company’s growth journey. Alongside the funding announcement, the startup has officially launched its services in Kolkata, entering one of India’s competitive on-demand food delivery markets.

The fresh capital is expected to strengthen the company’s operations, support platform development, and accelerate its expansion into new markets across India.

Fresh Capital to Drive Expansion Plans

According to the company, the newly raised funds will primarily be used to enhance day-to-day operations, scale its technology platform, and broaden its geographical presence. The investment comes as Amigo looks to strengthen its position in India’s fast-growing online food delivery sector.

The startup aims to build a larger customer base while expanding its service network in multiple cities. The funding is also expected to help the company improve its platform capabilities and support future growth initiatives.

Building a Food Delivery Platform Around Smart Discovery

Amigo is a Kolkata-based food search and delivery startup co-founded by Anshuk Sengupta and Saswata C. The company combines AI-driven food discovery with meal delivery services and healthy meal subscription plans, offering users multiple ways to find and order food.

Its platform is designed to simplify food selection while catering to customers looking for both regular meal deliveries and healthier dining options. By integrating AI-powered recommendations, the startup seeks to improve the food discovery experience for users.

Focus on Freshness, Quality and Affordable Meals

The company positions itself around freshly prepared meals offered at affordable prices. According to Amigo, value, freshness, and quality remain the core principles behind its offerings.

Rather than focusing solely on restaurant aggregation, the startup aims to provide customers with meal options that balance convenience with quality. It also offers healthy meal subscription plans as part of its product portfolio, catering to consumers seeking more structured meal choices.

Kolkata Becomes the Startup’s First Growth Market

With the rollout of services in Kolkata, Amigo has formally entered the city’s on-demand food delivery ecosystem. The market is already served by established platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy, making competition intense for new entrants.

Amigo plans to differentiate itself through competitive pricing and an emphasis on freshly prepared meals. The company believes these factors can help it attract customers looking for affordable food delivery options without compromising on quality.

The Kolkata launch also reflects the startup’s broader ambition to gradually expand its footprint beyond its home market as it scales operations with the newly secured funding.

Foxhog Continues Early-Stage Startup Investments

The funding round was led by Foxhog, a boutique venture capital firm founded in 2020 by Tarun Poddar. The firm invests across multiple stages of the startup lifecycle, ranging from idea-stage ventures to revenue-generating companies.

According to Foxhog, it has built a presence across six countries and supports more than 200 portfolio companies. The firm also states that it operates over 150 CSP centres across India.

By backing Amigo’s pre-seed round, Foxhog adds another early-stage startup to its investment portfolio, reinforcing its focus on supporting emerging businesses with growth potential.

Strengthening Presence in India’s Food Delivery Sector

India’s food delivery market continues to attract new entrants alongside established players, with startups exploring differentiated offerings to address evolving consumer preferences. Amigo’s strategy centres on combining AI-enabled food discovery with affordable, freshly prepared meals and subscription-based options.

With fresh funding in place and operations now live in Kolkata, the company plans to strengthen its platform, expand its reach, and scale its services in additional markets across the country while continuing to focus on value-driven food delivery.
