Drone startup SUIND has raised Rs 20.5 crore, approximately $2.2 million, in a seed funding round led by Transition VC. IIMA Ventures also participated in the investment.

The fresh capital will support the commercial expansion of SUIND’s agriculture drone platform. The company also plans to accelerate the development of its autonomous drone for surveillance and infrastructure inspection, strengthen its proprietary autonomy technology and add to its engineering workforce.

For SUIND, the funding comes with a clearly defined operating plan. The company is looking to scale a product that is already in commercial use while preparing another platform for a wider industrial market.

Bumblebee moves into the scale-up phase

SUIND has commercially deployed Bumblebee, its DGCA-certified autonomous spraying drone, for use across farms and plantations. The company’s next step is to increase the manufacturing and deployment of the platform over the coming 12 to 24 months.

That makes execution a central part of the startup’s post-funding journey. Expanding an operational drone platform requires more than increasing production. The company will also need to support field deployments while continuing to develop the underlying autonomy technology that guides its aircraft.

The stated use of funds suggests SUIND intends to work on those priorities together rather than treating hardware production, software development and commercial deployment as separate tracks.

Computer vision sits at the heart of SUIND’s technology

Founded in 2020 by Kunal Shrivastava and Kevin Kleber, SUIND develops autonomous unmanned aerial systems that use computer vision for navigation instead of depending primarily on GPS. Its technology is designed to function in low-altitude settings and environments where GPS access may be limited or unavailable.

This navigation approach is central to both sides of the company’s product strategy. Agricultural spraying often involves low-altitude movement over fields, while inspection and surveillance assignments can take drones into locations where conventional navigation systems may face limitations.

SUIND is therefore using the same broader autonomy capability to address different operating environments, beginning with agriculture and extending into industrial and security-related applications.

WASP targets inspection, surveillance and security use cases

Alongside Bumblebee, the startup is developing WASP, an autonomous aerial platform intended for industrial inspection, security, surveillance and defence applications. SUIND plans to prepare the platform for commercial launch while expanding Bumblebee’s manufacturing and deployment.

The two-product roadmap gives the company a practical balance between present operations and future expansion. Bumblebee provides SUIND with an existing commercial platform, while WASP represents its push into a broader set of autonomous aerial applications.

The seed round will now be measured by how effectively the startup turns that roadmap into deployment. In the near term, its priorities remain focused: build more Bumblebee units, widen their commercial use, advance WASP and strengthen the engineering capabilities behind both platforms.

With Transition VC and IIMA Ventures backing the company, SUIND enters its next phase with capital directed towards products, technology and field expansion rather than an undefined growth plan.
