India’s billionaire community continues to grow rapidly, reflecting the country’s expanding economic strength and entrepreneurial momentum. According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2026 released on Saturday, India now has 308 billionaires with a combined wealth of approximately Rs 112 lakh crore.

This surge places India as the third-largest hub for billionaires globally, behind only the United States and China. The ranking highlights not just the rising number of ultra-wealthy individuals in the country but also the growing diversity in sectors generating large fortunes.

Industries such as automobiles, energy, healthcare and financial services are increasingly producing new billionaires, joining established sectors like technology and pharmaceuticals. While several new entrants have joined the list this year, the top ranks continue to be dominated by long-established business leaders.

Mukesh Ambani Continues to Lead the Wealth Rankings

Mukesh Ambani has once again secured the position of India’s richest individual and Asia’s wealthiest person. According to the Hurun report, his net worth increased by around 9 percent over the past year, reaching approximately Rs 9.8 lakh crore.

Ambani is the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, one of India’s largest conglomerates. The Mumbai-based company has interests across petrochemicals, energy, telecommunications and retail.

Over the past decade, Reliance has significantly expanded its presence in digital services and consumer-facing businesses. The company’s investments in telecommunications and retail have strengthened its position as one of the most influential corporate groups in the country.

At 68, Ambani continues to dominate India’s wealth charts, maintaining a consistent lead over other industrialists.

Adani is the founder and chairman of the Adani Group, a major infrastructure-focused conglomerate headquartered in Ahmedabad. The group operates across a wide range of sectors including ports, airports, logistics, energy and infrastructure.

At 63, Adani remains one of the most influential figures in India’s infrastructure and energy landscape. Despite the drop in his net worth during the year, he continues to hold a strong position among the country’s richest individuals.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra Holds Third Place

Roshni Nadar Malhotra and her family secured the third spot on the Hurun list with an estimated net worth of Rs 3.2 lakh crore. Her wealth declined about 10 percent compared to the previous year, but she continues to rank among the wealthiest business leaders in India.

Nadar Malhotra serves as the chairperson of HCL Technologies, one of India’s leading information technology services companies. Based in New Delhi, she has played an important role in guiding the company’s global growth and strengthening its presence in international technology markets.

At 44, she stands out as the only woman among India’s ten richest individuals, highlighting her prominent role in the country’s corporate landscape.

Cyrus Poonawalla Climbs to Fourth Spot

Healthcare entrepreneur Cyrus S. Poonawalla and his family moved up to the fourth position after a substantial increase in their wealth. His net worth rose by about 44 percent, reaching nearly Rs 3 lakh crore.

Poonawalla is the founder of the Serum Institute of India, which is widely recognised as the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by volume. The Pune-based company became globally known during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to play a major role in vaccine production and global healthcare supply.

Now 84 years old, Poonawalla remains one of the most respected figures in India’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.

Kumar Mangalam Birla Rounds Out the Top Five

Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family occupy the fifth position on the list, with their wealth increasing by around 22 percent to approximately Rs 2.5 lakh crore.

Birla is the chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, a diversified multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai. The group has operations across several sectors including metals, cement, telecommunications, financial services and fashion retail.

At 58, Birla has overseen the group’s expansion both within India and internationally, strengthening its position as one of the country’s largest and most diversified business groups.

Expanding Wealth Landscape in India

The Hurun Global Rich List 2026 underscores the rapid expansion of wealth in India and the growing influence of Indian entrepreneurs on the global stage. With 308 billionaires and a combined wealth exceeding Rs 112 lakh crore, the country continues to strengthen its position among the world’s leading wealth centres.

The report also reflects how wealth creation in India is becoming increasingly diversified, with major fortunes emerging from multiple sectors of the economy. As new industries grow and existing businesses expand globally, India’s billionaire landscape is expected to continue evolving in the years ahead.
