Seema Ahuja has formally signed off from Biocon Group after more than 15 years, bringing to a close one of the more influential communications tenures in India’s healthcare and biotech sector. She was serving as Senior Vice President and Head of Communications & Brand at the time of her exit.
But unlike a routine leadership move, Ahuja’s departure comes with reflection and a clear sense of transition.
In a personal note shared publicly, she described her time at Biocon as a “defining chapter,” marking the end of a 14+ year journey shaped by purpose, learning, and long-term institution building.
A Role That Evolved with the Company
Ahuja joined Biocon in 2011, bringing with her over two decades of experience in marketing and communications across leading pharmaceutical and life sciences companies. Her stated goal at the time was clear: to help shape a strong global narrative for a company rooted in science, innovation, and patient impact.

Over the years, that mandate expanded significantly.
At Biocon, she moved into a strategic role within the Chairperson’s Office, where she oversaw the group’s reputation management and led key initiatives tied to brand-building at a global level.
One of her most visible contributions was helping shape the global positioning of Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, often referred to internally as “Brand Kiran”, while aligning communication strategies with the company’s broader business vision.
“A Masterclass in Leadership”
In her farewell note, Ahuja pointed to her close working relationship with Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw as one of the defining aspects of her journey.
She described the experience as a “masterclass in leadership,” highlighting lessons in conviction, clarity, and purpose. The emphasis, she noted, was not just on communication, but on taking bold positions and reinforcing the belief that India can lead in science.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw commented on a linkedin post by ascendants and said: “Seema has been an integral part of Brand Biocon’s meteoric rise. She has systematically shaped our narrative based on a mission of affordable access to essential medicines. Her commitment and dedication to perfection and integrity of messaging is truly commendable. She has laid a solid foundation for us to build on. Thank you my dear Seema ❤️❤️”
Her role also extended into Biocon Biologics, where she was part of the Executive Leadership Team. There, she contributed to shaping the company’s independent global identity, an effort she described as one of the most meaningful phases of her tenure.
Building Reputation Through Defining Moments
Ahuja’s time at Biocon coincided with a period of global expansion and heightened visibility for the company.
She helped work with the leadership group on building up credibility on a global scale and guiding communication through critical stages, such as the time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her work, as she noted, contributed to multiple recognitions over the years, including more than 50 awards for the team and a Lifetime Achievement honour for herself.
A Career Built Across Sectors
Prior to Biocon, Ahuja was working as the Vice President of Corporate Marketing & Communication at Jubilant Life Sciences where she was responsible for developing communication and branding strategies for varied business verticals.
In her early years, Ahuja worked for companies such as Lupin, Ranbaxy, and The Oberoi Group.
What Comes Next
While she has not announced a specific next role, Ahuja indicated that her focus will now shift toward advisory work.
She plans to work with businesses, startups, and individuals on building brands, strengthening reputation, and crafting purposeful narratives, areas she has spent decades shaping at scale.
“Biocon Will Always Remain a Part of Who I Am”: Seema Ahuja
For Ahuja, the exit is not just professional, it is personal.
“I came with experience, contributed deeply, grew alongside the organization… it became far more than a role,” she wrote.
Perhaps no sentiment better encapsulates her path than this: a path that started with communications, grew to encompass strategy, and eventually became entwined with the very identity of the company.
