YouTube is expanding its creator monetisation tools, AI-powered editing features and live-streaming capabilities as part of a major update announced at its Made On YouTube 2026 event. The new features are designed to give creators more ways to earn money, connect with brands and build stronger relationships with their audiences.
Among the announcements are new affiliate marketing opportunities, AI-assisted thumbnail testing, Shorts series, live creator matchmaking and a Live Showdown feature that will allow viewers to influence creator competitions through fan funding.
The platform also announced changes for viewers, including personalised feeds, AI-powered product recommendations and voice-based interactions on connected TVs.
YouTube Expands Creator Monetisation and Brand Partnerships
YouTube is introducing additional tools to help creators connect with brands and make their channels more attractive to potential partners.
Ask Studio will soon allow creators to tailor responses to brand briefs and develop pitches. The tool will also provide information on customising Media Kits to better match a brand’s goals.
YouTube Creator Partnerships, which is available in 20 countries, will help creators put their channels in front of brands. Once a partnership is established, brand partners can put paid media behind creator content.
Creators will also be able to insert segments into up to 20 long-form videos at a time, with the option to target specific regions.
YouTube is also expanding its shopping affiliate programme. The ability to tag Amazon products is expected to reach creators in India and Brazil in the coming weeks, followed by additional regions.
The platform plans to introduce localised product tags across regions, allowing creators to earn commissions from international sales. New affiliate campaigns will also let retailers and brands offer incentives, including exclusive bonuses and commissions, to creators who feature their products.
YouTube Live Updates Focus on Collaboration and Fan Funding
YouTube is bringing new ways for creators to collaborate during livestreams, interact with viewers and generate revenue.
Watch With Expands Beyond Livestreams
The Watch With feature will expand to eligible long-form videos later this year. Creators will also be able to select the ‘React live’ option to join conversations around live content.
YouTube said creators who react to live content will retain the live ad revenue and fan funding they earn.
Live Creator Matchmaking Arrives in 2027
Starting in early 2027, creators will be able to browse and select livestreamers for co-streaming. Alternatively, they can allow YouTube to automatically pair them with another creator through a quick-match option.
The feature is intended to make it easier for creators to find collaboration opportunities on the platform.
Live Showdown Turns Fan Funding Into a Competition
YouTube’s upcoming Live Showdown feature will allow two co-hosting creators to compete using fan funding.
Expected to launch in 2027, the feature will let viewers send Super Chats, gifts and chats to increase their chosen creator’s score. This will turn audience participation into a live competition while creating another potential revenue stream for creators.
Live Auto Dubbing to Translate Streams in Real Time
YouTube will begin piloting Live auto dubbing in early 2027. The feature will translate a creator’s voice during a livestream in real time, helping viewers outside the creator’s home country listen in their preferred language.
YouTube Shorts Gets Series, AI Editing and Thumbnail Tools
YouTube is also introducing changes to Shorts and YouTube Studio to help creators organise content, understand performance and improve their videos.
The new Shorts Series feature will let creators arrange Shorts into episodes and seasons. It will support custom thumbnails and sequential playback, with the feature rolling out to creators across mobile, TV and web.
YouTube Studio is also receiving new research and feedback capabilities. Insights and Research will help creators review past video performance and identify outlier videos that could inspire new content.
The feedback feature will provide personalised suggestions on storytelling, video structure and other creative elements.
Creators will also be able to generate thumbnails that match their channel’s style or use dynamic thumbnails, which can recommend different options for different audiences.
Ask Studio will be able to work in the background to assess older content and recommend updated thumbnails, with the ability to test those changes.
YouTube is also introducing a new A/B testing option that will let creators test up to three clips to identify which opening hook performs best.
Meanwhile, Gemini will be integrated as a conversational editing assistant for Shorts and the YouTube Create app, offering creators personalised answers as they work on their videos.
YouTube Adds Voice Detection to Likeness Protection
YouTube is testing AI-based comment moderation that can learn a creator’s preferred moderation style.
The platform is also expanding its likeness detection tool. In addition to facial detection, it will gain speaking voice detection to improve the accuracy of matches.
The feature will also be available through the YouTube mobile app, allowing creators to review potential matches and take action more quickly.
YouTube Introduces Custom Feeds and AI Product Recommendations
YouTube’s Made On YouTube 2026 announcements also include changes designed to personalise the viewing experience.
The upcoming Custom Feeds feature will allow viewers to create dedicated tabs based on their moods, routines and interests. These feeds will be accessible from the homepage, with the feature expected to become available in the US soon.
YouTube is also introducing Ask YouTube, which can help viewers find answers to questions about products.
When users search for product reviews, they may receive organised video recommendations, including comparison tables that display product attributes and categories based on their preferences.
For viewers watching YouTube on TV, the platform will introduce voice-based commenting, allowing them to add comments without typing.
YouTube will also expand post recommendations from the Shorts feed to web and mobile, with TV support expected to follow.
What the Made On YouTube 2026 Announcements Mean for Creators
YouTube’s latest announcements cover several parts of the creator experience, from brand partnerships and affiliate commissions to video editing, audience discovery and live-streaming tools.
Some features are expected to arrive in the coming weeks or later this year, while others, including Live Creator Matchmaking, Live Showdown and Live auto dubbing, are planned for 2027.
The updates give creators more options for monetising content, testing creative formats and collaborating with other channels, while viewers can expect additional ways to personalise recommendations and interact with videos.
