One of the top private sector banks in India, HDFC Bank, has made its first strategic investment in CoRover, a generative AI company based in Bengaluru. CoRover is the creator of BharatGPT, a ground-breaking enterprise-grade Large Language Model (LLM) that was entirely constructed in India.

Investing in India’s Multilingual AI Future

CoRover’s BharatGPT is impressive because it can understand many languages and types of communication. It allows users to interact easily in different Indian languages and dialects and provides strong AI support for voice, chat, video, and phone calls.

Arup Rakshit, HDFC Bank’s Group Head of Treasury, praised CoRover for its deep understanding of local language needs. He said that the bank decided to invest in it because of its strong ability to adapt to different languages.

CoRover’s Vision: Accessible, Sovereign AI for Every Indian

Ankush Sabharwal, the founder and CEO of CoRover, expressed gratitude to the bank for its confidence in the partnership and described it as a joint effort to create inclusive, safe, and sovereign AI that is appropriate for India’s critical industries.

Supportive government programs like the IndiaAI Mission and the IndiaAI Startups Global Accelerator, a partnership with Station F in Paris and HEC Paris, are also responsible for CoRover’s success.

BharatGPT Mini: Bringing AI Offline to Rural India

A lightweight version of CoRover’s flagship AI, BharatGPT Mini, operates on low-end devices and even without an internet connection, making it the company’s primary innovation. This capability makes conversational AI more accessible in offline or infrastructure-constrained scenarios, revolutionising underserved and rural societies.
