Rockstar Games’ upcoming title GTA 6 could demand a substantial amount of storage space on gaming consoles, with a new leak suggesting that the game may require approximately 210GB for installation. If the information proves accurate, the highly anticipated title could occupy a significant portion of the storage available on a standard PlayStation 5.
The reported download size also offers an interesting comparison with the gaming and digital entertainment landscape of 2010. Back then, 200GB was enough to accommodate dozens of popular PC games or even tens of thousands of MP3 music tracks. Today, a single upcoming game could potentially require almost the same amount of space.
GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, following a wait of 13 years since the previous mainline instalment in the franchise. With players preparing to return to Vice City, storage requirements could become another consideration before the game’s launch.
GTA 6 Download Size Leak Points to 210GB Requirement
The reported 210GB download size originated from a leak shared by X user @PlayStation Size. Gaming publication Insider Gaming has also reported on the claim.
However, Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the game’s final download size. The figure should therefore be treated as an unverified estimate rather than an established requirement.
If the reported size turns out to be accurate, GTA 6 could consume roughly one-fourth of the PlayStation 5’s advertised 825GB storage capacity. That could leave considerably less room for players who maintain a large collection of installed games.
The actual amount of usable storage on a console also differs from its advertised capacity, making the available space an important consideration.
What 200GB Could Store Back in 2010
The reported storage requirement becomes particularly interesting when compared with the size of popular games from earlier years.
In 2010, a 200GB drive could accommodate multiple copies of games that were widely played during that period. The original PC version of GTA Vice City required approximately 1.55GB of hard drive space, while GTA San Andreas needed around 4.7GB.
Other popular titles were similarly smaller in size. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) required approximately 3GB, while GTA III could run with around 500MB of storage.
Using these figures, a 200GB drive could theoretically hold:
- GTA Vice City: Around 129 copies.
- GTA San Andreas: Around 42 copies.
- Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005): Around 66 copies.
- GTA III: Around 400 copies, based on a 500MB requirement.
These comparisons highlight how dramatically game storage requirements have changed over the years.
200GB Could Also Hold Nearly 50,000 MP3 Songs
Gaming was not the only area where 200GB offered considerably more storage capacity in 2010. Digital music collections were also much easier to accommodate.
An average MP3 song could take approximately 4MB of storage space. Based on that estimate, a 200GB drive could theoretically hold close to 50,000 songs.
This makes the reported GTA 6 requirement particularly striking. The storage space that could once accommodate an enormous music collection or dozens of older games might now be needed for a single modern gaming title.
While the 210GB figure remains unconfirmed, the leak has brought attention to an increasingly important aspect of modern gaming: the amount of storage required to install and maintain major releases.
