AI companies are quickly discovering that billing is no longer a simple monthly invoice. When products are priced around tokens, API calls, GPU usage, prepaid credits or real-time compute, the money layer becomes far more complicated than a standard subscription plan.

That is the problem Flexprice is trying to solve.

The open-source billing infrastructure startup has raised $1.5 million in a seed funding round led by Shastra VC. The round also saw participation from Sandeep Mittal and TDV Partners. The company plans to use the new capital to expand across the US and Europe, while building more AI-native finance infrastructure products around metering, revenue recognition and financial reporting.

Flexprice is focused on AI-native and API-first companies that need to charge customers based on actual usage rather than fixed plans. Its platform supports billing models linked to token consumption, API calls, GPU usage and other real-time compute workloads, areas where traditional billing systems often struggle to keep pace.

The startup said its platform currently processes more than 20 billion events per month and supports AI businesses operating at enterprise scale. It also said revenue grew 6X in the last quarter, while event processing rose 20-fold over the past year.

Founded in 2024, Flexprice operates teams across New Delhi, Bengaluru and San Francisco. The company has been built by Manish Choudhary, Co-founder and CEO; Koshima Satija, Co-founder and COO; and Nikhil Mishra, Co-founder and CTO.

Why Billing Has Become a Core Problem for AI Startups

For years, SaaS companies largely relied on predictable subscription pricing. A user paid a monthly or annual fee, and the company delivered access to the software. AI products have made that model harder to maintain.

A customer using an AI tool may consume a small number of tokens one month and far more the next. Another may trigger heavy GPU workloads. A third may prefer prepaid credits or a hybrid plan with seats plus usage. For fast-growing AI companies, this creates a finance problem as much as a product problem.

Flexprice is building for that shift. Its infrastructure supports multiple pricing models, including pay-as-you-go, prepaid credits, volume-based pricing, seat-based subscriptions and hybrid billing structures. The platform also integrates with payment providers such as Stripe, Adyen and Razorpay.

The company said its infrastructure is built using Go, ClickHouse and Kafka to support high-throughput metering and event-driven billing pipelines. In simple terms, Flexprice is trying to help AI businesses track usage in real time, translate that usage into bills and connect the process to revenue workflows.

Flexprice: From Billing to Revenue Automation

Flexprice is not positioning billing as a back-office task. Its larger bet is that AI companies will need a full revenue automation stack that starts with usage and ends with recognized revenue.

Manish Choudhary, CEO of Flexprice, said billing is one of the hardest layers to get right and becomes highly consequential when it goes wrong. He added that the bigger opportunity is full revenue automation, giving AI companies the infrastructure to experiment, iterate and scale monetization in real time without being held back by systems that were not built for AI.

That framing is important. For AI companies, pricing is still evolving. Many are testing token-based plans, compute-linked billing, outcome-based pricing and combinations of subscription and usage. If the billing system cannot move as quickly as the business model, teams can lose time, revenue accuracy and customer trust.

This is where Flexprice wants to sit: between product usage, payment systems and financial reporting.

Shastra VC’s Bet on AI Monetization Infrastructure

The seed round was led by Shastra VC, a signal that investors are also looking beyond AI applications and paying attention to the infrastructure layer that supports them.

Avijeet Alagathi, Managing Partner at Shastra VC, said AI companies are increasingly facing challenges because traditional billing systems struggle to support evolving AI business models and complex usage-based pricing structures.

The investment comes at a time when more enterprises are looking for tools that can handle real-time consumption tracking and revenue management for generative AI applications. For Flexprice, the immediate task will be to prove that its platform can become a reliable finance layer for companies whose pricing models are still changing fast.

What Flexprice Plans to Build Next?

With the seed funding, Flexprice plans to deepen its product stack beyond billing. The company has outlined plans to develop AI-native finance infrastructure covering metering, revenue recognition and financial reporting workflows.

Its global expansion plans are focused on the US and Europe, two markets where AI software companies are actively experimenting with new pricing models. The company already operates across India and the US through teams in New Delhi, Bengaluru and San Francisco.

For now, Flexprice’s pitch is clear: AI companies should not have to force new-age pricing into old billing systems. As the AI software market moves from flat subscriptions to usage-linked monetization, billing infrastructure may quietly become one of the most important pieces of the stack.

Flexprice’s $1.5 million seed round is therefore not just another early-stage funding announcement. It reflects a deeper shift in how AI businesses are beginning to think about pricing, revenue and scale.
