Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is built around a simple but disruptive idea: players are no longer just fighting within the rules of a Battle Royale match. They can change those rules while the match is still running.
The new season, titled Override, launches on August 20, 2026, bringing Override Consoles, collectible Cheat Codes, Lobby Hacks, a redesigned Sprite system, major map changes and an unusually deep roster of gaming crossovers. Sonic the Hedgehog sits at the centre of the Battle Pass, while Mega Man, Pac-Man, Kingdom Hearts, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Tetris are among the franchises feeding into the wider season.
What makes the update more interesting than a conventional loot-pool refresh is how several of these systems connect. Sprites can now influence gameplay, collecting them generates Sprite Dust, and that Sprite Dust can be spent on Loot Hacks that alter what can appear inside a player’s chests. In effect, part of a future Battle Royale loadout can be shaped before the next match even begins.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override Consoles can change a match for everyone
The defining mechanic of Season 4 is the Override system.
Cheat Codes will be hidden around the island during Battle Royale matches. Once found, they can be activated through Override Consoles to change specific match conditions. Some Overrides apply across the entire server rather than benefiting only the player who activates them.

That makes reaching a console a competitive objective in its own right.
When a player captures one, their name is displayed around its base, effectively telling the lobby who took control. Rare Squad Overrides work differently, giving their benefit to the first squad that reaches them, but activating one also broadcasts that squad’s position on the map.
The confirmed Override effects cover movement, survivability, loot and weapon performance. Sonic Speed increases sprint speed over time, Infinite Stamina removes the usual stamina restriction, Constant Heal regenerates health and shields while the player is out of combat, and Speed Shooter improves firing and reload speed. Other options include Extra Life, Overshield, increased headshot damage and better chances of finding Epic or Legendary loot.
The important distinction is that these are intentional in-game mechanics. Season 4’s “hacking” language is part of the Override theme, not an invitation to use external cheats.
Lobby Hacks take the theme outside individual matches
Fortnite is also introducing something called Lobby Hacks, but these work very differently.
Instead of being collected during Battle Royale, Lobby Hacks are redeemable codes entered through Fortnite’s lobby menu. They are expected to be distributed through social media, promotions and real-world campaigns during the season, with rewards including XP, Sprite Dust and Sprite Variants.
Several codes were already listed ahead of the season, including 8BitBlast, O2Override, PerfectOrder, SurviveTheNight, TakeYourHeart, GottaGoFast and BEMOREALIEN, among others. The wider idea extends the hacking motif beyond the island, with players encouraged to spot codes appearing through Fortnite-related campaigns and collaborations.
Sprite Dust now has a much bigger purpose
Sprites return for Chapter 7 Season 4, but their role is expanding considerably.
The new generation of Sprites carries individual abilities that can be used during Battle Royale. The Tails Sprite allows players to hover, the Shadow Sprite can automatically reload weapons even when they are unequipped, and Jackrabbit provides an additional mid-air jump. Other variants can heal, upgrade inventory items, improve movement or influence chest rewards.
Players who collected Sprites during Chapter 7 Season 3 will not lose them. Those collections carry forward into the new season, while a Sprite Garden gives players a place to interact with their collection and show it to friends.
The more consequential change involves Sprite Dust.
Catching Sprites adds Sprite Dust to a player’s account. That currency can now be spent on Loot Hacks, which customise possible chest drops and can add bonus items to the Battle Royale loot pool, including items that cannot otherwise be found.
It gives Sprite collecting a direct connection to future matches rather than leaving it as a separate collection system.
Sonic, Mega Man and Tetris enter the weapon pool
Season 4’s gaming collaborations are also being translated into usable Battle Royale items rather than existing only as cosmetics.
Midas’ Masterpiece is described as a golden pistol capable of eliminating an opponent with a single headshot, while Mega Man’s Mega Buster allows players to charge and fire his familiar arm cannon.
The crossover equipment goes further.
Sonic Power Sneakers allow players to perform Sonic’s Spin Dash or an airborne Spin Attack, while a Tetris Rift can drop Tetris blocks to create immediate cover during a fight. A retro-styled shotgun also appeared in the Override trailer, although its final name and ability were not identified in the material available.
Additional crossover weapons are planned later in the season. Kingdom Hearts brings Sora’s Kingdom Key, while the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration introduces a dual-wielded assault rifle and SMG inspired by Rebecca.
Returning or unvaulted equipment includes the Pump Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Ranger Assault Rifle, Drum Gun, Minigun, Tactical Pistol, Dual Pistols, Oni Shotgun, Flare Gun, Bass Boost, Overdrive Grenade and Chug Splash.
Green Hill Zone becomes part of the Battle Royale island
The map is receiving an equally crossover-heavy makeover.
One of the most recognisable additions is Green Hill Zone, which turns the Sonic the Hedgehog location into a playable Battle Royale area. Players will be able to move through it using Sonic Power Sneakers.
Pac-Man Island has also been confirmed, although its exact position was not specified in the available information.
Other locations listed for Override include Stone Sanctum, replacing Sinister Strip; Epic Mega Arcade, replacing Frosted Flats; Reality’s Reign, formerly Zero Point; and a Sunken Shores Tetris POI. Sinister Strip, Calamari Canyon and Frosted Flats are among the Chapter 7 Season 3 locations being removed.
The result is a map where the crossover franchises are increasingly tied to gameplay locations and mechanics rather than simply appearing through Item Shop skins.
Sonic headlines the Battle Pass
Sonic the Hedgehog is the headline character for the Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass.
Purchasing the pass unlocks the Fortnite Sonic skin alongside a Tails Sidekick. The listed Battle Pass lineup also includes K1TTYW1NS, Phantom, Grace Crowne, Geno, Mali, Wrixel and Bastian.
There are also time-sensitive bonuses. Players who purchase the Battle Pass before August 27 at 11:59 PM ET are eligible for the Infiltrator Grace Crowne Outfit and matching accessories. Gifting the Battle Pass to a friend before December 4, 2026 is tied to the Peril Peak Mali Outfit promotion for both accounts.
Fortnite leans hard into gaming crossovers
Override’s collaboration list reads more like a gaming history mash-up than a single themed event.
Confirmed franchises include Sonic the Hedgehog, Kingdom Hearts, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, 99 Nights in the Forest, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Tetris.
Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow are set to appear in Android forms when they reach Fortnite, while Tails and Dr. Eggman will use their classic designs. More outfits and crossover content are planned across the season rather than arriving entirely on launch day.
That gradual rollout matters. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is not presented as a one-day content drop. Epic Games’ season is structured around additional weapons, outfits, Lobby Hacks and collaborations continuing after the August 20 launch.
The clearest shift, however, is not the number of familiar characters joining Fortnite. It is the way Override ties its systems together. A Sprite collection can affect chest loot, a console can alter the rules for an entire lobby, a Tetris crossover becomes portable cover, and Sonic is represented simultaneously through a Battle Pass skin, a Sprite, movement equipment and a playable location.
For Chapter 7 Season 4, Fortnite’s collaborations are becoming part of how a match works, not merely how it looks.
