Rohit Sharma added another milestone to his international career on Saturday, November 7, after becoming the batter with the most sixes against New Zealand in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The Indian opener moved past Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi during the second ODI of the series, taking the top spot with 51 sixes against the Black Caps.

Rohit entered the match needing two maximums to surpass Afridi’s record of 50 sixes. He achieved the feat during India’s chase of 135 runs at Hagley Stadium, hitting two sixes off New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson.

The 38-year-old scored 23 runs from 28 deliveries before being dismissed. Although his innings was relatively short, the two sixes were enough to establish a new record in the bilateral rivalry.

Rohit Moves Ahead of Shahid Afridi

Rohit’s first six came off the second delivery of the seventh over, bowled by Jamieson. He cleared the boundary again against the same bowler in the ninth over, taking his tally to 51 sixes against New Zealand.

The Indian batter has reached the milestone in 36 ODIs and 34 innings against the Black Caps. Afridi, who previously held the record, finished with 50 sixes from 38 matches and 35 innings against New Zealand.

The achievement also marked a turnaround for Rohit, who had failed to open his account in the first ODI on November 4. He returned to form with two sixes in the second match, moving ahead of one of Pakistan’s most destructive limited-overs batters.

Chris Gayle and Sanath Jayasuriya Complete the Top Four

West Indies great Chris Gayle occupies the third position on the list, having hit 45 sixes against New Zealand during his ODI career.

Former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya follows with 41 sixes against the Black Caps. Both players were known for their aggressive approach at the top of the order and remain among the most prominent names in ODI cricket.

Rohit’s latest record puts him ahead of three celebrated former international batters in a list that highlights his long-standing ability to score boundaries against New Zealand.

With 51 sixes already to his name, Rohit has further strengthened his place among the most prolific six-hitters in ODI cricket.
