PC players hoping to enter the world of Grand Theft Auto 6 without buying a console may have to wait longer. Xbox has pushed back on a report suggesting that Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title could be available through Xbox Cloud Gaming when it launches on November 19.

A report published by The Verge on October 7 claimed that Microsoft had secured exclusive streaming rights for GTA 6 and could make the game playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Such an arrangement would have potentially given PC players a way to play the game without owning an Xbox or waiting for a native PC release.

Xbox, however, has denied that GTA 6 will be available for cloud streaming on PC at launch.

Xbox says GTA 6 will not stream on PC

Matthew Ball, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer, addressed the report on X, saying that GTA 6 is coming to Xbox on November 19 but will not be available for streaming on PC.

“We’re excited to bring GTAVI to XBOX on November 19, with a note that GTAVI will NOT be streaming on PC,” Ball posted.

His comments directly challenge the claim that Microsoft had reached an agreement with Rockstar Games to offer GTA 6 through Xbox Cloud Gaming when the game launches.

The earlier report had cited people familiar with Microsoft’s plans and said the company had signed a deal with Rockstar for exclusive streaming rights. It also suggested that Xbox chief Asha Sharma had described the arrangement as something no other platform owner was doing.

That possibility has now been disputed by Xbox.

GTA 6 still has no confirmed PC release

For PC gamers, the bigger issue remains unchanged. Rockstar Games has announced GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the game scheduled to launch on November 19.

There is still no announced PC version at launch.

The cloud-streaming possibility would have offered PC players an alternative route into GTA 6 without requiring a native Windows release. Xbox’s latest clarification means that option should not be expected when the game arrives in November.

For now, players looking to experience GTA 6 on release day will need to use one of the two officially announced console platforms.

Why Xbox Cloud Gaming became part of the GTA 6 speculation

The confusion comes at a time when Microsoft is preparing changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The earlier report also pointed to a possible pay-as-you-go model that could allow users to purchase blocks of cloud-streaming hours instead of subscribing to Game Pass.

Microsoft is also set to introduce cloud gaming limits for Xbox Game Pass members in November. The amount of available cloud gaming time is expected to vary depending on the subscription tier, with Ultimate members receiving more cloud gaming access than users on other plans.

Those upcoming changes helped fuel speculation about how major releases could be distributed through the cloud.

For GTA 6, however, Xbox has now made its position clear. The game is scheduled to arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 19, while PC players do not have a confirmed launch-day option.
