Spotify is set to bring its audiobook service to India on November 12, 2026, marking the platform’s entry into the country’s audiobook market more than four years after the feature first debuted in the US.
The launch is part of Spotify’s biggest expansion of its audiobook business so far, taking the service from 22 markets to more than 180 markets globally by the end of 2026.
For Indian users, audiobook access will primarily come through Audiobooks+, an add-on available with Premium plans. Subscribers will receive 15 hours of audiobook listening every month through the service.
Spotify’s audiobook expansion reaches India
Spotify introduced audiobooks in the US in September 2022, initially offering more than 300,000 titles. The service later expanded to countries including the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
India was not among the 22 markets where Spotify’s audiobook service was available before the company’s latest global expansion.
The wider rollout is expected to take audiobook access to more than 750 million people. Spotify said the expanded service will feature more than 350,000 titles across over 120 languages, with the company working with nearly 300 publishers worldwide.
Indian users will initially have access to the expanded global catalogue. Spotify said local-language catalogues and titles will be added as its broader rollout progresses across markets.
Audiobooks+ will be the main route for Indian Premium users
Spotify’s audiobook model in India will differ from markets where audiobook listening is included directly within eligible Premium plans.
Indian subscribers will instead be able to access audiobooks through the Audiobooks+ add-on, which provides 15 hours of listening each month. Spotify has not yet announced the price of Audiobooks+ in India, noting that pricing will vary between markets.
Users will also have the option to purchase individual audiobook titles separately.
Globally, Audiobooks+ has crossed one million subscribers and generated more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue, according to Spotify.
The India launch also comes as the company continues to expand its user base in the country. At its 2026 Investor Day, Spotify said its subscriber base in India had grown seven-fold since its previous Investor Day, with localisation, local partnerships and payment integrations contributing to the growth.
Page Match gets a new way to find your place
Spotify is also expanding Page Match, a feature designed to make it easier for readers to move between physical books, ebooks and audiobooks without losing their place.
The company said more than one million readers have used Page Match since it launched in February.
With the latest update, users can scan the ISBN barcode of a book and use page numbers to locate the corresponding point in an audiobook. The feature supports more than 30 languages.
The idea is to make switching from reading a physical or digital copy to listening to the same book more seamless, particularly for people who move between formats.
Audiobook listening continues to grow
Spotify’s audiobook business has expanded considerably since its entry into the category. The company said monthly audiobook listeners increased by nearly 40% over the past year, while the number of listening hours rose by more than 30%.
Spotify launched audiobooks on Premium three years ago as part of its wider effort to expand beyond music and podcasts.
By May 2026, its audiobook catalogue had grown from 150,000 titles to more than 700,000 across 22 markets. The latest global rollout now takes the service into more than 180 markets, although catalogue size and availability will vary by country.
For Indian listeners, November 12 will therefore mark the beginning of Spotify’s audiobook push in a market where the company already has a large subscriber base. The initial offering will focus on its global catalogue through Audiobooks+, with local-language content expected to become part of the wider rollout.
