Mahindra has unveiled the Scorpio Lifestyler, a new lifestyle pickup that is set to enter the Indian market by April 2027. The company has positioned the pickup as a global model, with India getting the Scorpio name while international markets will receive it as the Mahindra Lifestyler.

The biggest talking point is its proposed starting price of below ₹19.79 lakh, ex-showroom. That puts the upcoming Mahindra significantly below the Toyota Hilux, which currently starts at ₹31.99 lakh in India.

A Sharp Price Difference Gives Mahindra An Opening

The price gap between the two pickups is substantial. Toyota’s current Hilux range starts at ₹31.99 lakh and extends to ₹36.69 lakh, while Mahindra has announced that the Scorpio Lifestyler will start below ₹19.79 lakh.

Mahindra is entering a segment where buyers typically look for a combination of utility, off-road ability and lifestyle appeal. The company says the Scorpio Lifestyler has been designed to combine utility, adventure and everyday comfort in a global midsize pickup package.

However, the final specifications and exact pricing structure will only become clear closer to its market launch.

From Global Pik Up Concept To Production Model

The Scorpio Lifestyler is the production-bound version of the Global Pik Up concept first showcased by Mahindra in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2023. The new pickup has been developed as a global product rather than simply as a commercial pickup adapted for lifestyle use.

Mahindra says the vehicle was designed at its India Design Studio in Mumbai and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. It uses the company’s next-generation body-on-frame architecture and has been developed with international markets in mind.

For international markets, the vehicle will carry the Lifestyler name without the Scorpio prefix. Its international debut is also planned by April 2027.

Rugged Styling Meets A More Premium Cabin

The Scorpio Lifestyler follows a muscular design theme, with a prominent front grille, LED lighting, chunky body cladding, side steps and large dual-tone alloy wheels. Its double-cab layout is paired with a dedicated cargo bed, giving it the traditional proportions expected from a lifestyle pickup.

Inside, Mahindra has moved beyond a basic utility-focused cabin. The pickup features a portrait-oriented central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Terrain modes are also part of the equipment shown with the vehicle.

Mahindra has also showcased three themed versions of the pickup, named Trail, Valley and Reef, highlighting its lifestyle-oriented positioning.

Hilux Remains The Established Benchmark

The Scorpio Lifestyler will face established rivals such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross when it reaches the Indian market. Toyota’s latest Hilux, launched in India in July 2026, uses a 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 204 PS and up to 500 Nm of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive on the relevant variants.

Toyota also continues to highlight the Hilux’s long-standing global reputation for durability and capability. The company says the model has a history spanning more than five decades, with over 20 million units sold across more than 180 countries.

April 2027 Launch Will Reveal The Full Picture

For now, Mahindra has confirmed the Scorpio Lifestyler’s India launch for April 2027 and indicated a starting price below ₹19.79 lakh, ex-showroom. Detailed information on the final variants, powertrains and other specifications is yet to be announced.

If Mahindra maintains the announced pricing when the pickup reaches showrooms, the Scorpio Lifestyler will enter the Indian lifestyle pickup segment with a sizeable price advantage over the Hilux. Its combination of global development, SUV-inspired comfort and pickup utility will make its arrival one of the more closely watched launches in India’s pickup market.
