iPhone 20 Pro Rumours: Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone generation could bring another increase in screen size, although the change may be more subtle than the major redesign expected around it.
Display specifications from a leaker from China named Digital Chat Station have shown that the iPhone 20 Pro will have a screen size of 6.41 inches with a resolution of about 2,686 × 1,236 pixels. The iPhone 20 Pro Max is expected to be equipped with a 6.96-inch screen size with a resolution of about 2,912 × 1,340 pixels.
That 6.96-inch measurement is particularly notable because Digital Chat Station has previously suggested that Apple could market the panel as a 7-inch display if the design reaches production.
For now, however, these remain early specifications rather than confirmed Apple product details.
iPhone 20 Pro could grow without dramatically changing pixel density
The rumored dimensions would make both Pro models slightly larger than Apple’s current iPhone 18 Pro generation.
The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.27-inch display, commonly rounded to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max measures 6.86 inches and is marketed as a 6.9-inch model. Their respective resolutions are 2,622 × 1,206 pixels and 2,868 × 1,320 pixels.
What makes the new leak interesting is that the reported increase in resolution broadly follows the increase in physical screen size. The source report notes that this could allow Apple to maintain a pixel density close to the roughly 460 pixels per inch used by the iPhone 18 Pro models.
In practical terms, the rumored change appears to be more about creating a slightly larger canvas than making a dramatic jump in display sharpness.
The bigger story may be what happens around the screen
Screen size alone may not be the main focus of Apple’s 2027 redesign.
Digital Chat Station claims Apple is testing what has been described as a “borderless quad-curved” display, with the panel curving away along all four sides. Previous reports have also pointed toward a design intended to make the 20th-anniversary iPhone look more like a continuous piece of glass, with the metal frame and surrounding bezels becoming far less visible during normal use.
This year in 2024, Apple has already managed to raise the sizes of the displays of the most expensive iPhones with the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro line. The iPhone 16 Pro has been upgraded from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, whereas the Pro Max version has been expanded from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.
Apple previously increased the dimensions of its premium iPhone displays with the iPhone 16 Pro generation in 2024. The iPhone 16 Pro moved from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the Pro Max increased from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Those changes were achieved through a combination of slimmer bezels and slightly larger chassis dimensions.
The reported iPhone 20 Pro changes appear considerably more restrained on paper.
Apple may still be deciding how to handle the front camera
One of the biggest unresolved questions concerns the front of the device.
Apple has been rumored to be working on thinner and brighter OLED panels, along with under-display Face ID technology and potentially an under-display front-facing camera. Those technologies would fit naturally with the idea of an uninterrupted display.
The latest leak, however, suggests Apple is also testing a different solution.
Digital Chat Station says the company is evaluating a smaller Dynamic Island-style hole-punch design for the iPhone 20 Pro models. The existence of that test suggests Apple may not yet have settled on a completely cutout-free display.
That distinction matters because the visual identity of the anniversary iPhone could depend heavily on whether Apple can successfully hide the hardware required for Face ID and the front camera beneath the panel.
A 7-inch Pro Max without a huge size jump?
The rumored 6.96-inch iPhone 20 Pro Max could be one of the more intriguing parts of the leak.
On paper, it is only a modest increase over the current 6.86-inch Pro Max panel. But if Apple simultaneously reduces the visual presence of the bezel and curves the display toward all four edges, the device could deliver a screen marketed around the 7-inch mark without relying on a dramatically larger front footprint.
That interpretation remains dependent on several pieces of unfinished hardware reaching production together. Apple has not confirmed the reported display dimensions, the quad-curved design, the under-display components or the final camera treatment.
The significance of iPhone 20 Pro
The rumored devices are being discussed in the context of the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.
Apple is expected to skip the iPhone 19 name, drawing a comparison with the company’s decision to move from the iPhone 8 generation to the iPhone X in 2017. The iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max are currently expected to arrive in September 2027, although neither the branding nor launch timing has been officially announced by Apple.
That makes the latest display leak less about a routine annual screen-size increase and more about how Apple may be shaping the front face of an anniversary device.
If the reported specifications hold, the most visible change may not simply be that the screens measure 6.41 and 6.96 inches. It could be how much of those displays Apple manages to make feel like the phone itself.
