Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China on September 23, with the larger model bringing an 8,500mAh battery, a rear secondary display and a Leica-branded dual 200MP camera setup. The company has also revealed a 32% silicon battery structure, an unusually specific detail that helps explain how it is fitting larger capacities into its new flagship phones.
Xiaomi has begun laying out the hardware story for its next flagship smartphones ahead of their September 23 debut. The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are scheduled to launch in China at 7 PM local time, with the company already revealing their designs and several of the specifications that will define the new Pro lineup.
The focus this time is not limited to cameras or processing power. Xiaomi is pushing battery capacity much further, bringing back the secondary screen on the rear of the phone and introducing a new display design with extremely narrow bezels.
The regular Xiaomi 18, however, is not expected to join the two Pro models at the September event. The available information places its launch later, around the end of 2026 or early 2027.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Max gets an 8,500mAh battery
Battery capacity is one of the clearest differences between the two upcoming phones.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro carries a 7,000mAh battery, while the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max increases that figure to 8,500mAh. Xiaomi is using what has been described as a 32% ultra-high-silicon Jinshajiang battery structure in the new models.
That leaves a substantial 1,500mAh gap between the Pro and Pro Max. The 8,500mAh capacity is also 1,000mAh higher than the figure cited for the previous Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
The capacity increase should not automatically be read as an equivalent improvement in real-world battery life. Actual endurance will still depend on factors such as the processor, display behaviour, software efficiency and how the phone is used.
What Xiaomi has confirmed, however, is that battery hardware is becoming a much bigger part of its flagship pitch.
A 2nm flagship platform is coming, but Xiaomi has not named the chip
Both the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will run on an unnamed 2nm flagship mobile platform.
That is currently where the confirmed information stops. Xiaomi has not disclosed the exact processor model, so attributing a specific Snapdragon chip to either device would go beyond what has been officially detailed so far.
The company has also paired the new platform with its latest display technology. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series uses a new-generation Super Pixel main screen built around an M11 luminescent system.
The bezels measure just 0.99mm
One of the smaller numbers in Xiaomi’s announcement may turn out to be among the most noticeable in daily use.
The front display is surrounded by 0.99mm screen bezels, giving the phones an extremely narrow border around the panel. The overall design uses a flat unibody approach combined with what is described as a micro-arc quad-curved frame.
Xiaomi has shown three colour options for the series: black, white and Starry Blue. The latter uses a finish intended to evoke a night-sky appearance with shimmering visual effects.
The official imagery shown ahead of launch also makes the rear camera area a major part of the phone’s visual identity, largely because Xiaomi has turned that space into more than a conventional camera island.
The rear display is becoming a functional second screen
Xiaomi is bringing back the secondary display on the rear, but the new version is designed to do considerably more than show static information.
The updated back screen sits around the camera area and supports AI-generated applications and cards. Examples given for the display include cooking timers, hydration trackers, Pomodoro timers, English vocabulary cards and recipe recommendations.
HyperOS 4 can also generate content for the rear display based on a user’s description, expanding the idea from a small information panel into a more interactive part of the phone.
It is an unusual direction for a flagship phone. Rather than treating the rear screen purely as a design feature, Xiaomi appears to be positioning it as a compact surface for quick tools that do not require opening the main display.
Leica cameras headline the imaging setup
Photography remains central to the Xiaomi 18 Pro series.
The phones use a Leica-branded dual 200-megapixel imaging system. One account of the hardware identifies the setup as including a 200MP main camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera.
There are still important details missing before the cameras can be properly assessed. Xiaomi has not yet disclosed information such as the sensor sizes, apertures or lens focal lengths in the material available so far.
That distinction matters because megapixel counts alone do not determine image quality.
Global release confirmed, but pricing remains unknown
The September 23 event is focused initially on China, but the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is also expected to be sold internationally. The available announcement material explicitly states that a global release has been confirmed.
What Xiaomi has not revealed is pricing.
For reference, the previous Xiaomi 17 Pro reportedly started at CNY 4,999, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max started at CNY 5,999. Those figures provide historical context, but they should not be treated as an indication of confirmed Xiaomi 18 Pro pricing.
The September 23 launch should therefore fill in several of the remaining gaps, particularly the exact processor, complete camera specifications, memory and storage configurations, pricing and market-by-market availability.
Xiaomi’s next Pro flagships are being built around bigger silicon-rich batteries, a more useful rear screen, ultra-thin bezels and a dual 200MP Leica imaging system, with the 8,500mAh Xiaomi 18 Pro Max sitting at the top of the pair.
