iPhone 18 Leak: Apple’s biggest iPhone battery jump in years could be on the cards, at least, that’s what the latest round of leaks is pointing to.
According to a new report, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is being tipped to “breach the 5,000mAh mark”, which would be a notable milestone for Apple’s top-end iPhone lineup, especially if paired with a more power-efficient chipset for real-world gains.
But even if the rumour holds, the same leak cycle underlines an uncomfortable reality for Apple: Chinese phone makers have pushed battery sizes far beyond what iPhones currently offer, in some cases, past 10,000mAh.
What’s actually being claimed about the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery?
The leak details point to slightly different numbers depending on the market:
- Tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo is cited as saying the China variant could come with a battery “around the 5,000mAh mark.”
- The global variant is described as having a “maximum sample battery capacity” in the ~5,100-5,200mAh range.
It’s worth stressing what this is and isn’t. This is not an Apple confirmation, and the language in the report is clear that this is leak-based information.
The chipset angle
Battery capacity alone doesn’t decide battery life. The same report says the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to be paired with an A20 Pro processor based on a 2nm process.
If that claim is accurate, the bigger story may be efficiency: a more efficient chip plus a larger battery is the kind of combination that typically shows up as longer screen-on time, fewer panic top-ups, and a more forgiving day for power users, the people the “Pro Max” label is aimed at.
How far ahead are Chinese flagships on battery?
The comparison in the report is blunt:
- It claims mid-range Chinese phones like Realme P4 Power have crossed 10,000mAh.
- It adds that mainstream flagships such as OnePlus 15 and Oppo Find X9 series are described as coming with 7,000mAh+ batteries, with 80W-100W fast charging support.
So even if Apple crosses 5,000mAh, the report frames it as “half the size” of the largest batteries being pushed by competitors in China.
What else is being “expected” for iPhone 18 Pro Max
Beyond battery, the same piece rounds up multiple leak strands about the iPhone 18 Pro Max, again, all framed as expectations or claims, not confirmed specifications:
- A 6.9-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 3,000 nits is mentioned as a possibility.
- A South Korea-based ETNews leak is referenced suggesting under-screen infrared tech from Samsung could enable under-screen Face ID.
- Separately, The Information is cited as previously claiming under-screen Face ID, potentially leaving a punch-hole-style selfie camera.
- Tipster Ice Universe on X is cited claiming a 35% narrower Dynamic Island cutout.
- The report also says Apple could use a C1X or C2 modem and an in-house N1 chip for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus test new colours including burgundy, coffee brown, or deep purple.
Apple may be shifting priorities but the gap is still the story
If Apple does move the Pro Max battery past 5,000mAh, it would be meaningful because it signals something simple: Apple is willing to grow the battery in a way it hasn’t always done aggressively.
But the larger context, as framed in the same report, is that competitors, especially in China, are treating battery as a headline feature: bigger capacities, faster charging, and rapid iteration cycles.
So for now, the most honest way to read this leak is: Apple may finally be pushing higher on capacity, but the “battery wars” have already moved into a different weight class elsewhere.
