The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to stay close to the design language of the current generation, but a new set of colors and a subtler change to the way the phone’s rear materials visually blend together could give the lineup its own identity.

Current expectations point to four iPhone 18 Pro colors, up from the three finishes available in the present Pro lineup. The most attention-grabbing possibility is a dark cherry-inspired shade that could take over as Apple’s new statement color.

But the more interesting design detail may be elsewhere. The glass section on the back and the surrounding aluminum are expected to remain visibly different materials, while appearing more closely matched in color than before.

That could make the iPhone 18 Pro feel more visually unified without Apple having to rethink the overall shape of the device.

Dark Cherry Could Replace Cosmic Orange

Cosmic Orange has been one of the defining colors of the current iPhone 17 Pro generation, but it is not expected to return for the 2026 Pro models.

Instead, Apple is tipped to move in a darker and more restrained direction.

The leading prediction is a deep cherry-like finish. Early interpretations of the shade have leaned towards a wine-inspired red with purple undertones, somewhere around burgundy or oxblood in appearance.

The final marketing name remains unknown, and the precise shade is far from certain. Apple has historically been able to keep its final colors under wraps until relatively close to launch, so the eventual finish could look different from current expectations.

That uncertainty is particularly relevant after early predictions for Cosmic Orange reportedly leaned towards gold or bronze before the finished product appeared.

Still, if the darker red materialises, it would mark a clear change in mood from the brighter orange used on the current Pro phones.

Four iPhone 18 Pro Colors Are Now Expected

The bigger change could be the size of the color lineup itself.

Reports currently point to four finishes for the iPhone 18 Pro series, compared with Cosmic Orange, Silver and Deep Blue in the existing range.

Alongside the predicted dark cherry option, a dark gray or black finish is expected to return.

Its absence from the current Pro lineup was unusual given how frequently Apple has offered a dark neutral option in previous generations. Bringing it back would give buyers who prefer a more traditional Pro appearance another choice.

Silver is also expected to remain, although not necessarily in exactly the same form. The shade could be adjusted for the new generation rather than carried across unchanged.

The fourth predicted finish is light blue.

Light blue would not be completely unfamiliar territory for Apple’s Pro range, and a similar lighter blue is already present elsewhere in the current iPhone family.

If the reports prove accurate, the expected iPhone 18 Pro palette would therefore consist of a dark cherry-style hero color, a dark gray or black option, a revised silver and a light blue finish.

The Bigger Design Story May Be the Back

Color choices could attract the headlines, but Apple may also be working on a less obvious visual refinement.

The overall iPhone 18 Pro design is expected to remain similar to the current model rather than introduce another major exterior overhaul.

The previous generation brought more significant changes, including a move away from the titanium edge and all-glass rear used on the iPhone 16 Pro. Aluminum was introduced for the frame and part of the rear structure, alongside a full-width camera panel.

Those basic design elements are expected to continue.

What could change is the relationship between the glass panel and the aluminum around it.

On the current design, the two sections can appear noticeably different in color. For the iPhone 18 Pro, they are expected to have greater visual consistency. They would still be distinguishable because they are different materials, but the contrast between them could become less pronounced.

It is a small distinction, but potentially an important one.

A closer color match could make the rear of the phone look cleaner and more cohesive while allowing Apple to retain the construction introduced with the previous generation.

More Evolution Than Reinvention

Taken together, the early picture of the iPhone 18 Pro is one of refinement rather than reinvention.

The familiar aluminum construction and full-width camera area are expected to remain, while Apple could use finishes and material matching to make the new generation look different enough at first glance.

That puts unusual importance on the four rumored colors.

The predicted dark cherry finish would give Apple a new standout option after Cosmic Orange, the expected return of black or dark gray would restore a traditional choice, silver could receive its annual adjustment, and light blue would offer the softer alternative.

Reports specifically suggest four colors rather than the three currently offered, with black or dark gray expected to return and light blue joining the range.

None of those colors should be treated as official until Apple reveals the phones.

The same applies to timing. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are currently expected to be unveiled around September, with Sept. 9 identified as a likely date rather than a confirmed one.

Until then, the most intriguing question may not simply be which of the four colors Apple chooses.

It may be whether the company can use those colors to make a familiar iPhone design feel substantially fresher, especially if the glass and aluminum sections finally look more like parts of the same finish.
