Zetagen Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in New York, has successfully raised over $12 million in Series B1 funding. Founded and led by CEO Joe C. Loy, the company is focused on advancing intratumoral therapies for metastatic and primary breast cancer. Although investor names were not disclosed, the successful close reflects strong confidence in Zetagen’s scientific approach and its expanding pipeline of localized cancer treatments.

Precision at the Core: The Zeta Platform

Zetagen’s‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ main strategy revolves around the Zeta Platform, which is a technology that aims to carry out the tumor-killing compounds directly in the cancerous tissue. The platform’s goal is to limit the exposure of the rest of the body to therapy by concentrating it at the tumor site, thus side effects should be lessened and a more accurate way of treatment can be given than usually is the case with the therapies. The company’s delivery system from the patient to the tumor is at the core of their work to make the results better for the patients and at the same time save the healthy ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌tissue.

ZetaMet: Advancing Treatment for Bone Metastases

ZetaMet‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ (Zeta-BC-003), the lead candidate of Zetagen, is a concept aimed at treating breast cancer metastasis to bone. By a single intratumoral injection, the drug seeks to tumor lesions in bone, thus, aiding to stop destroying the bone, alleviating the pain, and promoting bone regeneration. It has already been investigated in a few patients, and now the new money will allow Zetagen to further develop ZetaMet, thus, giving a chance to a targeted therapy to patients with a heavily pretreated ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌population.

ZetaMast: Expanding Treatment for Liver Metastases

ZetaMast (Zeta-MBC-005) is Zetagen’s hydrogel-based candidate designed to deliver two synergistic anti-tumor molecules directly into liver metastases. This approach is intended for breast-cancer liver metastases, an area where systemic therapies often fall short. The company is preparing for a Phase 1b dose-escalation clinical trial in the first half of 2026, marking a key milestone in the development of this therapy.

ZetaPrime: A Localized Option for Early Breast Cancer

The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ third candidate, ZetaPrime (Zeta-PBC-007), is centered on neo-adjuvant treatment of primary breast cancer. Their innovative lipid-based hydrogel technology enables a controlled, intratumoral delivery of two small molecules after a diagnosis has been made. Money from the grant will help facilitate animal studies and GMP production, thus getting ZetaPrime ready for clinical trials. The goal of this treatment is to provide a different systemic conventional therapy method, thereby lessening the side effects that may occur and directly targeting the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌tumors.

Protecting Innovation Through Patents

Zetagen‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ has expanded its worldwide patents portfolio to more than 70 patents that cover broadly three key areas: ZetaMet, ZetaMast, and ZetaPrime. These patents represent the basic science that underpins the company’s next-generation medicines and therefore form the platform not only for the company’s continued scientific innovation but also for its sustained competitiveness in the oncology ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌market.

Building Momentum With Clinical Progress

The Series B1 funding follows important progress in the company’s pipeline. Zetagen recently completed a Phase 2a study of ZetaMet for bone metastases, demonstrating promising results in early clinical testing. In addition, multiple abstracts covering ZetaMet and preclinical data for ZetaPrime have been accepted for presentation at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS). These milestones highlight the growing momentum behind Zetagen’s localized approach to breast-cancer therapy.

Toward More Targeted, Patient-Friendly Care

As‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ systemic treatments are known to have difficult side effects, patients with metastatic or early-stage breast cancer have such therapies as last resort. The intratumoral approach of Zetagen is a different solution to this problem, as it concentrates the treatment only to the place where it is necessary and, thus, the healthy tissues are spared.

By raising more money, the enterprise is in a good position to keep up clinical development, move forward its drug candidates, and, probably, change the manner in which localised breast cancer therapies are delivered. By the innovative delivery methods being used in conjunction with the right targeted compounds, Zetagen intends to make the treatment less burdensome and more exact, the patients being at any stage of breast-cancer ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌care.
