Ahmedabad-based deeptech startup Naxatra Labs has raised $3 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Rainmatter. The round also saw participation from a group of seasoned founders, operators, and angel investors, underlining strong confidence in the company’s engineering-led approach to electric motor manufacturing.

Investors participating in the round include Mohit Tandon of Delhivery, Himanshu Aggarwal of Aspiring Minds, Vijay Shekhar Sharma of Paytm, Aloke Bajpai of Ixigo, Anupam Jalote of iCEM, and Narayan from Ather Energy, along with other individual backers. The involvement of multiple operator-investors brings practical experience in scaling technology businesses alongside financial support.

Fresh Capital Aimed at Scaling Products and Production

The newly raised funds will be used to expand Naxatra Labs’ product portfolio, strengthen its research and development capabilities, and significantly scale manufacturing capacity. One of the company’s key goals is to ramp up production to 50,000 electric motors per month.

Along with capacity expansion, Naxatra plans to grow its engineering and operations teams. This combination of infrastructure and talent investment is intended to support higher production volumes while maintaining performance consistency and quality standards across applications.

Founded by Engineers with a Long-Term Technology Focus

Naxatra Labs was founded by Abhilash Maurya, Arnav Biswas, and Piyush Verma, who brought together deep engineering expertise and a shared focus on building core electric motor technology in India. From the beginning, the founders chose to invest time in developing strong in-house capabilities rather than taking shortcuts through outsourced design or manufacturing.

Over the past four years, the founding team has concentrated on building a robust internal R&D stack, allowing the company to design, test, and refine its products with full control over critical parameters. This foundation has played a central role in moving Naxatra’s products from early development stages into commercial readiness.

End-to-End Control Over Motor Design and Manufacturing

Naxatra Labs designs and manufactures high-efficiency electric motors for electric vehicles and industrial use cases. A defining feature of the company is its end-to-end approach, covering electromagnetic design, validation, and manufacturing within its own setup.

This level of vertical integration allows faster design iterations and closer alignment between engineering and production teams. It also enables the company to tailor motors to specific customer requirements, whether for EV traction systems or industrial machinery, without compromising efficiency or reliability.

Crossing the Gap from Lab to Market

Deeptech hardware companies often face challenges in translating prototypes into scalable commercial products. Naxatra Labs has already crossed this hurdle. Several of its motor platforms have progressed from lab-stage development to commercial production, reflecting a focus on real-world deployment and manufacturability.

This transition highlights the company’s emphasis on practical engineering and customer readiness, ensuring that products perform reliably beyond controlled testing environments.

Serving Indian and International Customers

Naxatra is currently working with multiple domestic customers and is also supplying motors to export markets. Its products are used across electric vehicle traction applications as well as a range of industrial use cases, demonstrating adaptability across operating conditions and performance demands.

By catering to both local and international customers, the company is gaining exposure to varied technical standards and application needs, which further strengthens its design and manufacturing processes.

Aligned with India’s Manufacturing and Energy Transition

As India pushes toward electric mobility and more energy-efficient industrial systems, demand for high-performance electric motors continues to grow. Naxatra Labs operates at the center of this shift, focusing on efficiency-driven design and localized manufacturing.

The company’s progress reflects a broader movement within India’s deeptech ecosystem, where startups are building core technologies rather than relying on imported solutions. With expanded manufacturing capacity, a growing team, and backing from experienced founders and investors, Naxatra Labs is positioning itself for steady, long-term growth.

The latest funding round marks a significant milestone for the founder-led startup as it scales its operations while remaining anchored to its engineering-first philosophy and manufacturing focus.
