Chennai-based skincare brand CHOSEN has raised $5 million in a Series A funding round led by Fireside Ventures. The round also saw participation from BOLD, Alkemi Growth Capital, and a group of angel investors, including Avnish Anand along with several dermatologists.
This funding marks a significant milestone for the company, which had earlier raised $1.2 million in an angel round in 2024. With this latest infusion, the company is looking to accelerate its growth while deepening its focus on science-led skincare solutions.
Investment Aimed at Strengthening Innovation and Talent
According to the company, the newly raised capital will be used to enhance its research and development capabilities and expand its range of clinically validated, evidence-based products. A key focus will also be on scaling its Centre of Excellence and bringing in high-impact talent across various functions.
The company plans to strengthen its scientific approach to skincare, ensuring that product development continues to be rooted in dermatological research and clinical validation.

A Science-Driven Approach to Indian Skin Needs
Founded in 2020 by Renita Rajan, CHOSEN has positioned itself as a science-led skincare brand tailored specifically for melanin-rich Indian skin. Its formulations are based on the concept of the exposome, which studies how environmental factors influence skin health over time.
The brand focuses on four major aspects of aging: pigmentation, skin texture, contour, and hair aging. Its product portfolio includes both topical treatments and nutraceuticals, reflecting a comprehensive approach to skincare.
CHOSEN follows a clinic-to-consumer model, where treatments are initially guided by dermatologists and later continued by consumers independently, ensuring both medical credibility and ease of access.
Building a Hybrid Dermatology and D2C Model
The company’s growth has been driven by insights gathered from more than 150,000 consultations. This data-backed approach has helped shape its product offerings and treatment protocols.
CHOSEN operates through a hybrid model that combines a strong B2B network of dermatologists with a direct-to-consumer platform. Its products are currently prescribed in over 2,000 clinics across India, while its digital platform caters to customers nationwide.
Notably, the brand’s online channel plays a major role in its revenue, with nearly 95 percent of digital sales coming through its own platform. This indicates a high level of consumer trust and engagement with its direct ecosystem.
Expanding Product Portfolio and Customer Base
At present, CHOSEN offers around 58 stock-keeping units across its doctor-led and D2C segments. The company has also reported a strong base of repeat customers, with nearly 70 percent of its revenue coming from returning users.
A significant portion of its customer base consists of women between the ages of 30 and 50, reflecting a focused appeal among consumers seeking targeted solutions for aging-related concerns.
Eyeing Global Markets with Similar Skin Needs
Looking ahead, CHOSEN is preparing to expand into international markets that cater to “skin of color” demographics. Regions such as Latin America and East Asia are part of its expansion roadmap, where similar dermatological needs present a strong opportunity for growth.
This move signals the company’s ambition to take its India-focused expertise to a broader global audience while maintaining its science-driven foundation.
Competing in a Crowded Skincare Landscape
CHOSEN operates in a highly competitive segment, going up against established global brands such as Avène, Heliocare, Cetaphil, Sebamed, Shiseido, and Dr. Sturm.
Despite the competition, the company’s emphasis on clinical validation, dermatologist involvement, and a targeted approach to melanin-rich skin has helped it carve out a distinct position in the market.
With fresh capital in hand and a clear strategic focus, CHOSEN is set to deepen its presence in India while preparing for its next phase of global expansion.
