Bajaj Finance shares climbed nearly 7% in Friday’s trading session after the non-banking financial company reported strong earnings for the first quarter of financial year 2026-27.

The stock opened at ₹1,095, well above its previous close of ₹1,053.50, and rose to an intraday high of ₹1,129. It touched a low of ₹1,083.60 during the session before trading at ₹1,124 at 11:12 am, a gain of ₹70.50 or 6.69%.

The sharp move made Bajaj Finance the biggest gainer on the NSE Nifty 50 during early trade.

Quarterly profit comes in ahead of expectations

Bajaj Finance reported a consolidated profit after tax of ₹6,081 crore for the June quarter, representing a 28% increase from the corresponding period last year.

On a standalone basis, the company’s net profit increased 27% year-on-year to ₹5,986 crore. The figure was higher than the ₹5,850 crore estimated by analysts, giving the stock an immediate boost in morning trading.

Net interest income, a key measure of earnings for lenders, rose 23% year-on-year to ₹12,571 crore. While the increase reflected continued growth in the company’s lending operations, the reported NII was slightly below market expectations.

Asset quality shows sequential improvement

The improvement in Bajaj Finance’s asset quality was another key factor supporting investor sentiment.

Gross non-performing assets declined to 0.96% from 1.03% in the previous quarter. Net non-performing assets fell to 0.39% from 0.50% over the same period.

The sequential reduction in both gross and net bad-loan ratios indicated stronger credit performance during the quarter and added weight to the company’s profit growth.

Bajaj Finance rally supports benchmark indices

Buying in Bajaj Finance and other financial stocks helped Indian benchmark indices trade modestly higher during the morning session.

The BSE Sensex gained 49.91 points to reach 77,970.95, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 28 points to 24,343.65 in early deals.

Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics, Maruti Suzuki, InterGlobe Aviation, Adani Ports and Sun Pharma were also among the gainers.

However, profit-booking in technology shares limited the broader market advance. Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra traded lower, along with ITC and HDFC Bank.

Foreign institutional investor inflows and softer crude oil prices also contributed to the positive market tone.

Stock extends its lead over the Nifty 50

Following Friday’s rally, Bajaj Finance had gained 8.7% in 2026. During the same period, the benchmark Nifty 50 had declined by around 7%.

The difference in performance highlights the support the stock received from its quarterly earnings, improving asset quality and stronger-than-expected standalone profit.

Attention will now remain on Bajaj Finance’s performance in the coming quarters, particularly the pace of loan growth, interest income and movement in bad-loan ratios. Broader market direction will also depend on institutional flows, crude oil prices and changes in the macroeconomic environment.
