Instamart has appointed Gautam Swaroop as its new Chief Business Officer (CBO), marking another key leadership addition as the quick commerce platform continues to strengthen its senior management team and expand its business operations across India.
In his new role, Swaroop will lead the company’s commercial operations, with responsibilities spanning customer growth, category management, and brand partnerships. The appointment is aimed at supporting Instamart’s next phase of business expansion while enhancing its market presence in the country’s rapidly growing quick commerce segment.
Veteran Executive Brings Cross-Industry Experience
Swaroop joins Instamart with more than 20 years of professional experience across consulting, pharmaceuticals, and technology. His career has included leadership roles in businesses operating at both domestic and international levels, giving him broad expertise in business strategy, growth, and operational management.
He started his career at McKinsey & Company, where he worked on strategic consulting assignments. He later moved to Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, where he played a key role in expanding the pharmaceutical company’s emerging markets business.
Before joining Instamart, Swaroop served as the Chief Executive Officer of OYO’s international business. During his tenure, he managed operations across several major global markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, China, and Latin America. His experience in leading large-scale international operations is expected to strengthen Instamart’s commercial strategy as the company continues to grow its footprint.
Taking Charge of Commercial Operations
As Chief Business Officer, Swaroop will oversee several critical business functions that directly influence Instamart’s growth. These include driving customer acquisition and engagement, managing product categories, and building stronger partnerships with consumer brands.
These areas are central to the company’s business model, particularly as competition in India’s quick commerce industry continues to intensify. By focusing on customer growth and expanding relationships with brand partners, Instamart aims to further strengthen its position in the market.
Swaroop succeeds Hari Kumar, who recently stepped down from the role of Chief Business Officer at Swiggy’s quick commerce business.

Leadership Sees Growth Opportunity
Commenting on the appointment, Girish Menon, Chief Human Resources Officer at Swiggy, said Swaroop’s experience in building and scaling businesses will play an important role in supporting Instamart’s continued growth. According to Menon, his leadership is expected to help deepen relationships with brand partners while strengthening the company’s commercial capabilities.
The appointment reflects Instamart’s continued focus on bringing experienced leaders into key business functions as it expands its operations and customer base.
Broader Leadership Expansion Underway
Swaroop’s appointment is part of a wider leadership expansion at Instamart. Alongside the new Chief Business Officer, the company has also made additional senior-level appointments to strengthen different areas of its business.
Srikar Adavi has joined as Vice President of Ad Monetization, where he will focus on advertising-related initiatives. Meanwhile, Hardeep Kaur has been appointed Associate Vice President for the FMCG category, overseeing one of the platform’s important product segments.
These appointments indicate the company’s continued investment in building specialised leadership across commercial, advertising, and category management functions.
Expanding Presence in India’s Quick Commerce Market
Launched in August 2020, Instamart has grown into one of India’s prominent quick commerce platforms, offering fast delivery of groceries and everyday essentials. The service currently operates in more than 131 cities across the country, catering to consumers seeking convenient access to daily household needs.
The platform continues to expand its operations while strengthening its organisational structure to support future growth. As competition in the quick commerce sector continues to evolve, experienced leadership is expected to play an important role in driving business performance, improving customer engagement, and building stronger partnerships with consumer brands.
With Gautam Swaroop taking charge as Chief Business Officer and additional senior executives joining the leadership team, Instamart is reinforcing its commercial capabilities as it continues to scale its operations across India.
