The Mahindra Group has unveiled plans for a significant expansion of its manufacturing operations in India with the development of its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The announcement was made on February 6, 2026, at the Advantage Vidarbha event, a state-led initiative focused on promoting the Vidarbha region as a growing industrial destination.

This ambitious project marks a major milestone in Mahindra’s long-term manufacturing strategy and highlights the company’s confidence in Maharashtra as a key hub for automotive and farm equipment production.

Rs 15,000 Crore Investment Planned Over a Decade

Mahindra plans to invest Rs 15,000 crore in the new facility over the next 10 years. The project will be developed on a sprawling 1,500-acre site in the Vidarbha region, making it the largest manufacturing complex ever undertaken by the group.

To strengthen the supply ecosystem around the main plant, Mahindra will also develop a dedicated supplier park spread across 150 acres in Sambhajinagar. This supporting facility will focus on component manufacturing and logistics, ensuring smoother operations and greater efficiency across Mahindra’s production network.

High-Capacity Production for Vehicles and Tractors

Once fully operational, the Nagpur facility will have the capacity to manufacture more than 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors every year. Production is expected to begin in 2028, and the plant is expected to play a central role in meeting Mahindra’s future demand across both its automotive and farm equipment businesses.

The scale of production highlights Mahindra’s plans to serve not only domestic markets but also support its export ambitions in the years ahead.

Strategic Location Strengthens Supply Chain Efficiency

Vidarbha was chosen for its strong infrastructure and connectivity advantages. The region benefits from seamless road access through the Samruddhi Expressway, dependable railway links, and proximity to key domestic and export corridors.

The supplier park in Sambhajinagar is expected to further enhance Mahindra’s supply chain by increasing localisation, lowering logistics costs, and enabling closer collaboration with component manufacturers. In addition to supporting the new Nagpur plant, the park will also cater to Mahindra’s existing manufacturing facilities in Chakan and Nashik.

Future-Ready Automotive Manufacturing

The automotive division of the new plant will be designed to support Mahindra Auto’s next-generation vehicle platforms, including the NU_IQ architecture. The facility will be flexible enough to manufacture vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, electric powertrains, and emerging technologies.

Advanced automation, digital manufacturing systems, and sustainability-focused processes will be integral to the plant’s design. These features are expected to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and ensure the facility remains adaptable to evolving mobility trends.

Alongside vehicle production, the dedicated tractor manufacturing unit will further reinforce Mahindra’s leadership position in the farm equipment sector, an area where the company already holds a strong market presence.

Additional Expansion Across Maharashtra

Beyond the Nagpur project, Mahindra has also outlined plans to acquire land in the Igatpuri-Nashik region. This expansion will support increased engine and product capacity and help scale the group’s advanced technology businesses.

In total, Mahindra will acquire more than 2,000 acres of land across three locations in Maharashtra as part of this comprehensive expansion initiative.

Boost to Regional Development and Employment

The Maharashtra government views the project as a major boost to the state’s industrial ecosystem. The investment is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and accelerate economic development in the Vidarbha region, which has been a focus area for industrial growth.

Mahindra’s leadership has described the project as a significant step in the company’s manufacturing journey, aligning with its broader vision of producing world-class products from India for global markets.

With this large-scale investment, Mahindra continues to strengthen its role in shaping the future of mobility and farm mechanisation while contributing to India’s industrial growth and regional development.
