Fresh details surrounding the death of All Elite Wrestling star PAC have begun to emerge, offering a clearer picture of the final hours of the 40-year-old wrestler while leaving the central question of what caused his death unanswered.

PAC, whose real name was Benjamin Satterley, was found unresponsive in a vehicle outside a restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, on Sunday, September 27. Emergency crews responded to the scene after witnesses called 911, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The circumstances have drawn particular attention because Satterley had competed at AEW All Out only a day earlier.

Satterley was found passed out in a vehicle in a restaurant parking lot at around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Responding authorities were initially unable to confirm whether he was breathing. Another official was later heard confirming that he had died. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reportedly recorded his time of death as 4:08 p.m.

Police say there was no indication of foul play

The Des Plaines Police Department said there were no signs suggesting foul play and that the circumstances surrounding Satterley’s death were not considered suspicious.

His cause of death, however, had not been established at the time of the reports. Authorities said that determination would be made by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Medical examiner’s office spokesperson said there were no indications of foul play or trauma. The death did not appear suspicious.

While new information has emerged about where Satterley was found and how emergency services responded, a medical cause of death is not yet confirmed.

PAC had wrestled at AEW All Out a day earlier

Satterley’s death came shortly after one of his final appearances inside an AEW ring.

He competed against Andrade El Idolo in the opening match of AEW All Out in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, on Saturday. Later in the show, he appeared again during the AEW World Championship match involving Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay.

The following evening, AEW publicly announced his death.

The company said it was saddened by the passing of Benjamin Satterley and remembered the Newcastle upon Tyne native as a wrestler who had performed around the world since beginning his career in 2004.

AEW also highlighted the athletic style that became central to his reputation, describing his high-flying offence and in-ring ability, and noted that he had been with the promotion since 2019.

A major figure in AEW and WWE

PAC had become one of AEW’s most recognisable performers after joining the promotion in 2019.

During his run with the company, he became the inaugural All-Atlantic Champion and twice held the AEW World Trios Championship.

Before AEW, Satterley built a significant career in WWE under the ring name Neville.

He held the NXT Championship, became a two-time Cruiserweight Champion and also won the NXT Tag Team Championship twice.

Images carried with the reports show Satterley across different stages of that career, including his WWE years as Neville and later appearances associated with AEW.

Tony Khan and Triple H pay tribute

Tributes quickly followed from senior figures across professional wrestling.

AEW owner Tony Khan remembered Satterley for his wrestling knowledge, athleticism, professionalism and dedication to the sport, while also describing him as a beloved husband and friend.

“Benjamin Satterley defined excellence,” Khan wrote in a tribute, before concluding, “May Ben rest in peace.” Details begin to emerge in deat…

WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque also reflected on working with Satterley during the early years of NXT.

Levesque described him as an “extraordinary talent” and said he had been a major force during an important period in the development of the NXT brand. He also offered condolences to Satterley’s family, friends and fans.

Cause of death remains pending

Despite the additional details surrounding the emergency response, the reports available so far stop short of identifying what caused Satterley’s death.

What is established is that he was discovered unresponsive in Illinois on Sunday afternoon, was pronounced dead shortly afterward, and that police said there was no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

Satterley was 40.
