Samsung appears to be preparing a significant hardware refresh for its next flagship, the Galaxy S27 Ultra, with early leaks pointing to a larger battery, a redesigned rear camera system and improvements to its display technology. However, the changes may not be immediately noticeable from the front, as the smartphone is tipped to retain almost the same screen dimensions and overall front design as its predecessor.

Expected to arrive in early 2027, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could measure just 7.9mm in thickness and weigh around 218 grams. The additional weight is reportedly linked to a larger 5,700mAh silicon-carbon battery, suggesting Samsung may be prioritising battery capacity while keeping the device relatively slim.

The leaked specifications also point to a possible starting price of around $1,499, although Samsung has not confirmed the pricing or launch details.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Get a 5,700mAh Battery

Battery capacity could be one of the biggest upgrades in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The device is tipped to feature a 5,700mAh silicon-carbon battery, a notable increase in capacity that could make room for longer usage between charges.

The larger battery is also expected to contribute to the phone’s reported 218-gram weight. This would represent a four-gram increase over its predecessor.

Charging could receive attention as well. Leaks suggest Samsung may introduce 60W to 65W wired fast charging, alongside 25W wireless charging and Qi2 support.

If these specifications materialise, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could bring a combination of increased battery capacity and faster charging without moving towards a significantly thicker design.

Samsung May Remove the Dedicated 3x Telephoto Camera

The rear camera arrangement could undergo a more noticeable transformation. Samsung is reportedly considering dropping the dedicated 3x telephoto camera and replacing the existing quad-camera arrangement with a triple-camera setup.

The expected configuration includes a 200MP ISOCELL HP6 primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 5x optical zoom with an f/2.9 aperture.

The primary sensor is described in leaks as a modified version of the HPC sensor. Meanwhile, the removal of the separate 3x camera would mark a change in Samsung’s established approach to its Ultra-series photography hardware.

Beyond the sensor specifications, image processing is also expected to receive improvements. The reported changes include better highlight control, reduced noise in darker areas and smoother low-light photography.

These adjustments could help the phone capture bright objects more naturally while retaining details in shadow-heavy scenes.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Display May Look Almost Unchanged

Despite the reported hardware changes, the front of the Galaxy S27 Ultra could look familiar.

Leaked screen protectors reportedly suggest that Samsung is retaining the existing display outline, bezel dimensions and edge curvature. This could also mean that screen protectors designed for the previous generation may remain compatible, although this has not been confirmed.

The smartphone is tipped to feature a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

However, the display technology underneath could receive an upgrade. The device is reportedly being tested with an M16 E7 OLED panel, which is claimed to offer around 20% better efficiency and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits.

An anti-reflective coating is also expected to remain part of the display package.

Another reported addition is Privacy Display, a feature designed to restrict viewing angles and prevent people nearby from easily seeing the contents of the screen. Leaks further suggest that it could offer split-screen privacy controls, allowing one application to remain visible while another is shielded.

Snapdragon 2nm Chipset Could Power the Next Ultra

Performance is another area where Samsung could introduce substantial changes.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumoured to use a next-generation Snapdragon chipset, with leaked names including Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. These processors are reportedly associated with a 2nm manufacturing process.

Samsung could also use an Exynos 2700 chipset in selected markets, potentially bringing a 2nm-based processor to certain regional variants.

Memory configurations are expected to begin with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, while storage could go up to 1TB using UFS 4.1 technology.

However, the final processor configurations and regional availability remain unconfirmed.

One UI 9.5 and Android 17 Could Bring Software Changes

Samsung is also reportedly starting software development for the Galaxy S27 series earlier than it did for previous generations.

The upcoming flagship is expected to run One UI 9.5 based on Android 17. Reported software changes include redesigned translucent controls, smoother animations and deeper integration of AI-powered system search.

The extended testing period is reportedly intended to improve software stability and ensure that the new interface works smoothly with the upgraded hardware.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra: Expected Launch and Price

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is currently tipped for an early 2027 debut, with a possible starting price of approximately $1,499.

The reported price increase is being linked to higher component costs, although Samsung has not announced an official price.

For now, the leaked specifications suggest that Samsung’s next Ultra flagship could focus on three major areas: battery capacity, camera hardware and display efficiency. The reported removal of the dedicated 3x telephoto camera also indicates a possible change in the company’s camera strategy.

It is important to note that the Galaxy S27 Ultra has not been officially announced, and its specifications, design, pricing and launch timeline remain subject to change as development continues.
