Delhi’s fight against pollution is set to get a major push with the approval of the ₹8,300-crore Clean Air, Healthy Delhi project by the cabinet of CM Rekha Gupta.
The announcement was made by CMO Delhi, which said the initiative will be supported through World Bank financing. The project will use modern technology, scientific planning and coordinated institutional action to address the major sources of pollution across the capital.
Under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the project is being presented as a focused attempt to move beyond short-term pollution control measures and build a more structured response for Delhi’s air quality challenge.
The ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ initiative will help in bringing various agencies and organizations together on a common platform with technology and science being its backbone. The stress on coordination is essential because pollution in Delhi arises from different sources and therefore needs a city-wide approach.
With an approved outlay of ₹8,300 crore, the project stands out as a large-scale clean-air initiative for the national capital. The World Bank financing support also gives it a wider development framework, aimed at strengthening Delhi’s capacity to plan, monitor and act on pollution in a more organised way.
The announcement has not yet detailed the project timeline, implementation stages or agency-wise responsibilities. Those details will be crucial in understanding how the initiative moves from approval to action on the ground.
For now, the approval marks an important step in Delhi’s clean-air agenda, with the Rekha Gupta government placing technology, planning and institutional coordination at the centre of its pollution-control strategy.
